New Purchase/First Post: Happy Birthday to ME!!

Well, over the last year I have been on the hunt for just the right rose gold piece to celebrate the milestone of my 40th birthday. I went in many directions...

Absolutely love this watch but just too sporty for this occasion. Fantastic dimensions!

Loved this one too but just a little more than I wanted to spend right now (otherwise, this would have been the one). I think this one could be both sporty and dressy and would have fit the bill well.

(plus a few more not pictured: AP, PP Calatrava, a few Blancpains were also in the running)

but ultimately I wanted a "dress" watch that was elegant, had character (I don't care for just plain, flat dials), quality and came from a company with history. The watch would also be kept and be handed down as a family heirloom.

When making this kind of decision and you are on a "limited" budget, you really must take the time to try on these watches before making your final decision. There were several pieces, like the 40mm Patrimony and a few Blancpains, that I just knew I would love and just knew they would look great on my wrist but found that for one reason or another they just didn't make me smile. What incredible disappointment I felt when the 40mm VC turned me off!!! From its pictures, I just knew that it was the one for me!

On the flip side, looking at the pictures of the watch I finally chose, I thought to myself that there is no way that I would like it...

Then the day came when I tried it on "in the metal" and it WOWed me. I kept looking and trying on different watches but I just felt the the VC Patrimony Tradtionnelle fit the bill and "budget" perfectly.

So without further typing, here it is...

Through my WIS journey my tastes have become more refined (expensive-OUCH). I love the gorgeous tone of VC's rose gold. JLC and GO's rose gold is a bit too yellow for my liking (though it is growing on me quickly). I love the RG hands and applied indices. I love the multiple layers of the dial (sub-seconds is a layer below the dial, as is the stepped down date window). I also like the "railroad tracks" surrounding the dial and sub-seconds. The only thing I don't care for is how small the signed crown is, just because it is hard to get a hold of while manually winding. Another thing I noticed this week, that I really like is the fact that the hands are divided lengthwise. One side is highly polished and the other has a satin finish. This makes for a very nice contrast. It is all of these minute details that make it such a masterpiece.

Now the flip side!!!

In house movement: Caliber 2455 with Hallmark of Geneve
Screwed in back (30m WR)
I love the knurled edge of the case back. Love the open back that allows the view of the gorgeous movement and guilloched 22k rotor. It winds only in one direction (clockwise) and spins freely in opposite direction. It is actually kind of neat to feel the same warble that you feel with the 7750 on my Breitling Navitimer.

And the wrist shots!!

Looks and feels fantastic on the wrist! Though it is only 38mm, I believe that it wears slightly larger (39-40mm), probably because of the simple, uncomplicated open dial.

Oh, did I mention it is my birthday.

I hope you enjoyed my journey. Sorry for the so-so pictures. I took soooo many because I wanted to get it from as many angles as possible. I really am very happy with my purchase, as is the heir. Now I just have to get three more high end pieces to pass on to my other three sons. Poor me, literally and sarcastically!!!

God Bless,

Jacob

Amazing first post Jacob!

Welcome to the Lounge, Happy 40th and Congratulations on such a wonderful VC!!! Thanks a lot for posting all these pictures... It looks much better in "real life" photos than in the VC marketing images (like you, I didn't really like it when I first saw those). The dial really seems to come to life in your pics, and the movement is so beautiful! Question: does the knurled edge of the case back ever catch your hairs? Cheers, Veillotron
Thanks for the kind comments!

No, the knurling has not been a problem.
The Patrimony Traditionnelle is a gorgeous watch, happy B day and

Wow Jacob, Congratulations on your truly grand timepiece. I agree with your not liking the small crown, but then as consolation I would think of it in light of not using it too often considering the watch is an auto and that its less prone to damage.  The different finish to both surfaces of the dauphine hands sounds really wild.
Great Shots, Jacob! Congrats on your acquisition! nt
