New VC Ultra Thin Owner - Strap/Buckle Size Questions

I purchased my first Vacheron recently, a 6115 ultra thin model from 1975, which very nicely had the original purchase invoice and COA/manual.  I've since sent it to the VC in Texas who have sent it on to the spa in Geneva.

Included originally was a tired leather strap and steel buckle which I promptly removed.  While I wait on the refurbishment, I'm currently looking for a replacement strap and buckle and am having a difficult time discerning the original specs on them anywhere online.  I seem to remember measuring the lug-to-lug measurement 18mm, but being a few months ago, I'm having doubts that I remember correctly.  14mm YG buckles appear to show up on the used market occasionally, but I rarely see 16mm buckles that are generally implied from a 18mm strap.  To make matters more confusing, I have seen 18mm Vacheron straps that taper to 14mm, though these measurements seem nearly impossible to find from third-party makers (i.e., Hirsch, Camille Fournet, etc.)  I worry that a 16mm Maltese buckle may overpower the 33mm watch.  Would anyone happen to know the proper measurements for this watch?  Many thanks in advance.

Hi Mixwell and welcome. I believe that 18/14mm is correct although 17/14 is also possible since some watches from that decade and earlier were in fact 17mm at the lugs. Measure accurately. There is a jig available for measuring lug and buckle sizes. I have one but can't recall where I got it. It looks like a ruler with slots cut out for the different measurements. The Historiques Chrono has an 18/14 strap, for example. You are correct, a 16mm buckle would be overpowering. Good luck! JB

I'll bet a call to The Vacheron Concierge 1 (877) 701-1755 will solve your problem. You may be pleasently surprised at what a real Vacheron strap would cost from them If a 14 mm buckle is correct, and I believe Joseph to be correct: Good  hunting, Miki
