Next recent acquisition...

Last year I was thinking that it was a bit unfair for me to have all the VC watches for myself. And I thought that getting my wife a Vacheron would therefore be appropriate. (method=madness)
Last year when we visited the exhibition at the New York Boutique, I showed her the new Kalla with the flame-cut diamonds but it was just a bit to glitzy cool
Then I recalled that last year at the SIHH dinner, Guillaume and I were looking at one of the display cases showing the Prestige de la France. It was a very interesting watch with a very unique asymmetrical case. But I didn't think too much more about it at the time.
Then about 6 months later at the NYC Paris Opera Gala, Michael Berlin's wife was wearing one and it looked stunning. My wife really admired it too. I said nothing but the cogs were turning.  wink   Soon after, Robert put up his thread on the design and I started looking in earnest.
I finally located a ladies version (Ref. 628b, the same version featured in The Secrets of Vacheron Constantin) in Italy and after a little negotiations...
It arrived about a month or so ago and I finally had the opportunity to take some pictures.
Here they are:

You're killing me, Joseph! You really are. That is beautiful. But I am very glad that your wife is getting it. It seems to me that this is reason enough to get together for lunch again. :-). It really is such a wonderful design by Vacheron. You have captured it beautifully in your photographs. Congratulations to you both. Robert
Thanks Robert!

I have you to blame or credit for this little bauble wink. But Gale really likes it a lot, so that's good. It is a very lovely design. We'll be in New York in ealy November (week-end of the 9th, so if you're around lunch would be great. Best, Joseph
I imagine this watch looks perfect on Gale's wrist
09/23/2012 - 01:40
And how about a wrist shot from Gale???? So, Joseph, is this the same one as Alessandra's, or if not the exact same, is it the same size?  Is this, as I think you said, the ladies' size, and does that mean that the men's size is larger?  I was able to see Alessandra's in NY at the ballet lunch, of course. I will try for the November lunch -- I will just have to see about my schedule.  But it would be fun. Warm regards, Robert
Oh oh Joseph, you're turning your wife into a WIS! I really like the
09/22/2012 - 10:57
Funky 70s design of this watch which en passant was désignée by VC's Paris team :-)
Merci, Alex

I've gotten quite fond of the look. It's unique and holds the test of time very well. It's a bit of a sleeper but still a very elegant dress watch.
Beautiful watch.

Thanks, Joseph, for the report and the pictures. I hadn’t noticed that the watch is a bit concave seen from the side. I really like your pictures no 5 and 7 yes. The crown is wonderful.  I hope that your wife is pleased with the watch! I have tried to convince my wife about that watch but haven’t had any success so far sad. She is a square person wink. Yours sincerely Kent.
Thanks Kent

Gale is very pleased. It was a surprise gift and her jaw dropped when she saw it! Now its the watch to wear to dinner and any events. We have have subscriptions to the symphony and opera this year, so she will definitely be wearing it often. Warm Regards, Joseph
An awesome classic...

The fishing was fruitful. Prestige de la France has always fascinated me... Congrats, JB! May it time the best moments!
Many thanks for the kind words, Radek

Sometimes it takes a while for a design's beauty to sink in as with this watch; but it definitely was worth it! Best, Joseph
Beautiful!
09/22/2012 - 16:30
And I envy you that your wife also has a passion for watches.   I am trying to get her started, but without much success so far.  Hopefully in a few months' time,  my gift of an engraved Reverso for our anniversary will help turn her around ... Cheers, Jeff
Thanks, Jeff
09/22/2012 - 18:04
The Reverso sounds great! But you know there is always a danger...its like eating peanuts or corn chips...you can't stop after just one! laugh All the best, Joseph
Looks to be in superb condition!

Gorgeous timepiece Joseph yes.  Is the case back indeed slightly curved to fit the wrist?  Also, is the dial of a special material?
Thanks, Dean
09/22/2012 - 19:55
The case back does have a curvature to it. Its slight but appropriate to a woman's wrist. I don't know about the dial though. It's a dark slate gray, but I don't know if its silver, gold or other metal that has been painted. Regards, Joseph
Very nice!

It's great to see that your wife has joined the club, and that you are keeping up with the Berlin's. :-) Bill
Thanks Bill
09/22/2012 - 19:57
As far as keeping up with the Berlins...one can only aspire...laugh Best, Joseph
Oh Please . . .
09/22/2012 - 23:25
You are the far more knowledgeable and experienced collector. I aspire to keep up with you!
Michael, you are way too generous!
09/23/2012 - 05:20
But thank you for the kind words, nevertheless.

Alessandra and I are thrilled that we helped inspire this act of chivalry, and one good turn does deserve another. It probably does not apply to you, Joseph, but I now find it easier to acquire watches for my collection without a long question and answer period. Perhaps this bit of wisdom should be part of the watch collecting FAQ. We hope to see you both when you are in NYC.
Hear! hear! I second the motion!
09/23/2012 - 05:23
There are so many people here with a vast amount of knowledge and wisdom and with access to others even more knowledgeable that the Hour Lounge is most definitely the place to visit to acquire both.
It's the thought that counts...

Joseph, you've chosen a route straight to the heartheart.  A delightful gift, nicely photographed concluding with a very happy Galeheartheart. Doesn't sharing happiness make it all worthwhile! Tony
"Doesn't sharing happiness make it all worthwhile!"
09/23/2012 - 23:11
Yes it definitely does, Tony! I really made her day with that watch and it wasn't even a special occasion. angel Regards, Joseph
A truely designers watch

Thank you, Cisco

It was a more gradual affair for me realizing just what a great and unique design it was. And then there was no turning back. Joseph
