Oh I hate jet lag...

Woke up at 3am and couldn't get back to sleep.  So here are some pics of the Sounds of Time exhibition at the Maison from a few days ago.  Alex posted some of the juicy pocket watches so I'll just add a few more and focus on the wristwatches.  Jerome was a great guide and we had fun discussing those beautiful watches heart.

Upon arriving at the President Wilson, we first took a tour of the area, including the very nice botanical gardens.

Oh I hate jet lag...

Oh I hate jet lag...

Oh I hate jet lag...

Oh I hate jet lag...

Oh I hate jet lag...

Oh I hate jet lag...

Oh I hate jet lag...

Oh I hate jet lag...

Oh I hate jet lag...

These public pianos are scattered around town.  I saw one being played beautifully on the weekend at the Place Bel-Air but didn't have my camera.  This lady made a valiant effort and we applauded appreciatively.

Oh I hate jet lag...
Time for a change of clothes and our appointment at the Maison.   Yes, those are the Jeffery-Wests cool

Oh I hate jet lag...

Need to call a horticulturalist to fix this clock!

Oh I hate jet lag...

Let the fun begin!  This James Ward Packard watch was delivered in 1918 and features Grande and Petite Sonneries, quarter and half-quarter repetition, and a 30-minute chronograph, all wrapped in a heavily chased 20k case.

Oh I hate jet lag...

And for you wrist-flickers...

Oh I hate jet lag...

Oh I hate jet lag...

Oh I hate jet lag...

Oh I hate jet lag...

Oh I hate jet lag...

Oh I hate jet lag...

Oh I hate jet lag...

The Tour de l'Ile makes a fitting bookend, don't you think?  That's all for now, gotta take a nap blush

We were blessed with good weather

for our travels... until the day were were to hike from La Cure on the French border (literally, the border line went right through the hotel) over La Dole to Nyon and we awoke to sheets of rain and no visibility.   Made the choice of travel by train easy though, and we were amazed that one could see the Jet d'Eau from so far away surprise We'd descended below the storm by Geneva and for a few minutes could actually see the weather station on top of La Dole.  I've been told it's the worst weather in Switzerland up there...
Thanks for those lovely pictures from Geneva..

It looks like you had a good time. I'm always amazed how affordable the wrist watches with an hour / minute hand and minute repeater seem.  If it wasn't for the slider it would be within my reach crying. This is a watch you could walk with in the street and the thieves would knock down the man next to you with the Iphone and the Ro... watch . Your photo of the Packard watch is beautiful. Good to have you back here on the Hour Lounge.   Kent
Only by a factor of 50 Kent

$5k for plain time-only 50's watch with teardrop lugs, $250k to add the little slidey thing on the side wink.

Exquisite minute repeaters...simply wow! It's not at all easy to get good pictures of watches in glass display cases - well done. Thanks for sharing with us, Dean. Paul

You know I've always admired your photos.  In fact it was some patient coaching by Jerome that produced such good results blush.

Dean, I am glad that you enjoyed your trip. Living in Australia is great but our distance from everything is a bit of a curse. Great photos. What camera did you take them with? I would love a minute repeater but I need to win lotto first. All the best. Hamish
Used a new camera Hamish

I'm pleased with the Canon G15 as a travel/adventure camera, especially in low-light conditions.  Maybe it's time to put away the film cameras?
