a bit soft for most of the transacted lots.

No kidding! Many of the Vacherons were passed and of those that sold many just made their minimums. This watch's price is a result of a bidding war between people who love enamel dials. Auctions are funny things and very unpredictable. JB
Market for Vintage Time-Only Watches has been overhyped

A lot of these watches, especially the small ones, just don't have much appeal to collectors. A lot of these have flooded the market lately as prices started going up, and people sometimes have unrealistic expectations. The quality pieces are doing fine.

It was a good opportunity for new collectors or those just looking at reputable brand vintage pieces to get their feet wet. It sure beats risking your money on eBay and elsewhere! Joseph
Auction snobbery?

There are still horror stories from the big auction houses, and at least with fleabay you go in with your eyes wide open.  There are some gems to be had at local markets, smaller online auction houses, and, yes, fleabay too.  An educated buyer will 'sus them out!  I hope to hear that someone on this forum acquired that minty original Ref. 6440 Cioccolatone which just sold on the 'bay, is frickin gorgeous heart.
