Part two of part one...huh? The Dinner

Sorry about that guys.  There is nothing more divine or distracting than a 1 1/2 year old daughter asking you to watch videos of Barney (the purple dinosaur) with her (I ended up posting in mid-stream instead of uploading a picture of Jerome's watch).

Anyway, here is Jerome's baby...Of course, a mercator.  In my book, it can still give any novelty a run for its money!

THE VC DINNER

A welcome drink at the Maison...

Mr. and Mrs. LN (Lin).  Lin gets my vote for best dressed gent of the evening (great suit and coat).  He gives meaning to the saying "some guys have all the luck"...(Successful carreer, lovely wife, etc.).  Mrs. LN was all class and charm too!...but her choice of escort shows that nobody is perfect (just kidding, Lin).

Right: While everyone is busy conversing, Felipe still has the presence of mind to flash me his pearly whites.

Part two of part one...huh? The Dinner

A toast to The Hour Lounge and VC!!

L-R: Radek, Mr. L (JohnLy), Francois (Veillotron), and Alex...

Part two of part one...huh? The Dinner

Part of the fun was finally being able to put faces on the handle names.  For one, I thought JohnLy was an

Asian around my age.  The pleasant surprise was he turned out to be a gentleman from the U.S. who out-smoothed

and out-mellowed the wines of the evening.

Adam G., Jerome (Mercator), Wallid, Felipe, and Isabelle from VC

Part two of part one...huh? The Dinner

It was good to see that our Veillotron (Francois) was none the worse for wear.  Alex looks on, while JohnLy and

LN compare notes.  You can imagine how frustrating it was for the catering staff to keep their rythm as everyone

kept on standing and checking out the watches!!

Part two of part one...huh? The Dinner

The menu included a lobster dish but I forgot about taking pics...until it was too late...(as you can see,

the steak almost suffered the same fate)!  Part two of part one...huh? The Dinner

Part two of part one...huh? The Dinner

We were also joined by Julien Marchenoir (VC Marketing Director) and Mr. Bernaz (Mr. Bespoke himself).

Both gentlemen (as well as Isabelle) never tired of answering everyones questions.

Part two of part one...huh? The Dinner

One more shot for the road...

L-R:  JB, yours truly, Alex and Radek...all smiles!

I would've liked to have been able to talk more with everyone, but when you are around seasoned watch collectors

and people "in-the-know", just listening in on the conversation is like getting a free education.

Part two of part one...huh? The Dinner

Well, since we had the opening of SIHH the next day, we eventually had to call it a night.  I really enjoyed the private

and relaxed mood in which we were able to savor each other's company, as well as the good food and the ambience

of the Maison.

Thank you to Julien, Isabelle and Mr. Bernaz for having us at the Maison (and sharing your precious weekend time!).

Thank you to Alex for all the arrangements and to the Loungers present at the dinner for your warm camaraderie.

Just meeting everyone at the dinner made my 24-hr, door to door trip to Geneva worth while.

Best Regards

Kazumi

....with this, you could surf on th HL, upload your pics and distract your daughter at the same time

Thank you for the pics of this event, I would have liked being with you

And, as you said, "Part of the fun was finally being able to put faces on the handle names."

Now, thanks to photos I know what look like most of the active members of HL

LOL! Fred, were do you find these things?

By the way, the guy in the picture doesn't seem too thrilled about that particular modelling job...

Isn't Barney supposed to be purple?

LOL! Wouldn't want to have to wear that through Summer though (nt)

company and very interesting converations. I was also pleasently surprised at how young everyone was or perhaps I am old...no matter because their/your knowledge and passion for watches is beyond age.

Hi John

You are so right about that!!

Although there was a good variety of age and backgrounds (and I knew I was swimming with big fish), I never felt out of place.  Everyone was a true gentleman/lady, and our common love for VC meant an instant bonding even among first timers.

By the way, thank you so much for that flattering story you posted earlier.  Between you and Radek, I could probably run for US president (not that I would want the job).

All the best!

Kazumi

Keep on Kazumi, soon I believe I was there ! nt

Thanks for the report

and your kind words

It is like it was just yesterday

My pleasure, LN!

It was nice to finally meet you.  Although we hardly had much time to talk during the fair, the short chat we had at Starbucks and the hotel lounge was most enjoyable.  The only problem with keeping in touch at the Hour Lounge is I cannot enjoy that French accent of yours (way too cool)!

Please send my regards to the Mrs.  I think she was the coolest person in the group (my wife would go crazy being surrounded by watch nuts for so long)!

Best

The Dinner, the company, the Maison, the watches...

Thanks, JB.

Yes, the photos never fail to bring a smile on my face!!

It was nice having dinner with you twice, and getting twice as many chances to hear your interesting stories and anecdotes on history, the arts (and watches too).

Regards,

Kazumi

Thanks Kazumi for all the pictures!

Good memories

Hi Francois
04/14/2008 - 18:25

It was really nice meeting you at last.  I was one of those who was greatly touched by the ordeal you have had to face recently, so it was good to see you up and about.

I am sure you had mixed feelings about your watch but discretion is the better part of valor, and I am sure that there will be another great watch with your name on it waiting for you in the future.

Best Regards,

kazumi

thank you for the kind words
04/14/2008 - 19:19
