I haven't read the article and the link just goes to some advertising. So I'll wait until I see it. But who did they poll?

I can tell you that after visiting the PP factory as well as Vacheron ,Chopard, JLC and Dufours workshop that my order would be: Dufour, VC, Chopard, JLC and the PP. I watched the production, finishing etc. and I found PP disappointing just as I found Chopard a pleasant surprise with their staff highly committed to an excellent product. They are now using the Fleurier "seal" as a substitute for the Geneva one since they are outside the canton. I believe their criteria are just as stringant.

Unless the magazinelooked at things such as the number of repairs/model/year and other parameters I would think its pretty non-scientific and therefore not too meaningful except for advertising purposes.

Vacheron also had a highly dedicated staff and a lot more hand-finishing and some really skilled people. And I didn't even get to their enamel and engraving department in the Valle des Joux.

I'm sure it will please those who like to see their PP investment climb by leaps and bounds but it won't convince me to buy a PP at their inflated prices.

Just some thoughts.

Well said JB!

VC still got some purists here...

A story of a guy who's on the list for Patek 5712 which I feel in line
04/01/2008 - 12:02

with JB's comment. Alex, please delete this if it violates any rule. Here goes: (taken from the other watch site)

The situation is as follows. 18 months ago I told my AD that I wanted to get on the list for a 5712 (Nautilus power reserve). I have previously purchased 12+ watches from this dealer, sold on their behalf 20+ watches by refering friends, and have a very good personal relationship with them. By all accounts they have treated me very well for a long time. While I know they have gotten several 5712s in previously I was patient reminding them of my interest periodicaly. Last Friday I got the long awaited call that my watch was on the way from Patek and would arrive Sat/Mon/tuesday. I asked the price and was told $26,600 list with no discount. Understood given how in demand the watch is. Now the problem... As I went in the store today excited to pick up my Nautilus, I was told that Patek might be holding the order a few days so that a price increase would be in effect. At first I thought they were kidding, but was then told the price "could" be $4k more. One of the owners who I like very much commented "you can still sell it at a profit". I was very clear that I collect watches and dont think it ethical to "flip" watches for a profit. Simply, I feel like I was quoted a price and given that I dont want to sell the watch I am being screwed out of $4k. I don't even know who exactly is screwing me the dealer or Patek...

Ain't life's a beach?

a sad world we live in :-( (nt)

Now that's a stoy...and a half.

And an interesting moral lies therein. If you want to buy Patek, bend over!

I would have passed up this "deal" if I'd been in his shoes...
04/01/2008 - 15:03

Thank God I'm not a Patek fan...

I feel sorry for those who have to be slaves of a certain brand.
04/01/2008 - 16:26

I mean they HAVE to get everything the brand releases. For ex. ROO...too many "LEs" YET these hardcore fans (or slaves?) keep buying them even at outragous price they are sold at. Kinda like "you're so squared if you don't have them"... If VC becomes this way, I am sure many will walk away as well...LET'S HOPE NOT! LOL!

So, I agree w/ Radek thank God I am not a diehard PP or AP fan...I am a freeman who can choose what I want , not the other way around.

another notch for PP on m

Very frustrating experience - and I know what I'm talking about...

Similar thing happened to me when I bought a Hublot BB. I wasn't told that Hublot was holding the watch until the prices went up, but rather that it would be a few weeks late, and unfortunately when it would be time to pay for the balance, the prices would have gone up. The increase was only $300, but it made me really mad - it's not about the money, the principle is just wrong... this is not how to treat clients (especially when a deposit was made on the basis of an agreed price).

I did make a fuss and I paid the increase. But I will not be buying again from this dealer.

Can't agree more
04/01/2008 - 18:23

If I come to and agreement with someone I expect them to stick to it. I would have left dealer with the watch no matter how bad I wanted it, like Iwas always told growing up "It's the principal of the matter"

Re: Can't agree more
04/02/2008 - 02:51

If you think an old hard head Italian, worth nothing more than his word, would dissagree with this you are dead wrong.

Fortunatly, for this unreputable dealer, I was not involved in this scam. Absolutely discussuting and I own Pateks! Miki

the article doesn't show ! NT

Patek #1 in perceptions...
04/01/2008 - 18:31

Regardless of facts, surveys measure perceptions and are not intended to be scientific.  The list produced by Watch magazine at least gives a good ranking of how readers value the watch brands.  I'm sure Vacheron's marketing types are envious (or perhaps mystified) that lesser brands such as IWC and Rolex are rated higher in quality.

supposedlty the ranking was not made by readers but by independent

Clever....and Evil >:-)

I was also ready to answer on such an article.
04/01/2008 - 23:44

I am happy to learn it is a joke for this special day. You got us, Nico!

You are right, VC after Omega and others... But when you love something or you are keen to, you react more with your heart than your mind... (I think)

Well done

LOL!!! That was a good one. Thanks! (nt)
