Tim, it is very interesting that you found this monument to a French horloger in Switzerland; one of the three most famous besides Le Roy and Breguet I'm sure. And besides his pioneering work on marine chronometry, he had another talent that I admire - educator. Apparently his most widely published work was a modest booklet in 1759 titled, "L'art de conduire et de régler les Pendules et les Montres a l'usage de ceux qui n'ont aucune connaissance d"Horlogerie" or How to Manage and Regulate Clocks and Watches For the Use of Those Who Have no Knowledge of Horology. I must get a copy!
