Platinum Minute Repeater, more info needed

Dear loungers,

I trust you all are having a great week, and is looking forward to the approach of the weekend!

I have taken a great interest in this VC platinum minute repeater, and would like to know more information about it as my knowledge of the great manufacture is way less than all of you right here. So i'd thought that some of you may be able to enlighten me on this piece, and maybe help shift my way towards actually purchasing it.

Price advice via private mail is much appreciated as well, but over here could you all give me some history about the watch, what series was it made in and when, and if there are any other particular significance that i should know about, all and any comments greatly and highly appreciated.

Well here are the 3 shots of the watch from the seller.

Thanks!

Stephen

the grail of all grails. Let me tell you a little story

in the mid 80s VC decided that they wanted to relaunch an extra flat minute repeater similar to the ref 4261 from the 40s-50s of which only 36 were made. One of these ref 4261s was taken apart and the brand set out in recreating a modern version of the caliber. At the time the Swiss mechanical watch industry was starting to come out (limping) from the quartz crisis and rebuilding this kind of complication from scratch was not an easy task and certain "ancient" techniques were reused: rumor has it that to harden the gongs the later were dipped in horse urine! The ref 30010 using the extra flat caliber 1755 (only 3.28mm thick) was launched in 1992. Only 200 caliber 1755s were made and used in either gold or platinum cases, skeleton or full dial with or without perpetual calendar. Which means that very few exist in each variation. The case uses the iconic tear drop lugs of VC from the 40s. I have a friend who has the exact same watch as the one you are contemplating and I have to say that the chimes are simply fabulous, loud, crisp, clear and on the right tone. I have heard many many different minute repeaters and the VCs (along with PPs) are the best I have heard and by a mile!

Thank you so much Alex for the historical background on this piece and it's fantastic eternal movement! Didn't know about the horse urine part, but is definitely an eye opener! I have had the pleasure to view the Non-skeletonised Perpetual calender version before, unfortunately could not listen to it as it was locked behind the glass. It is GORGEOUS! Thanks ! Stephen

The most beautiful watch ever Means nothing the layman, though pure beauty, technical perfection and most important, impossible to detect for the average man on the street. True beauty is always hidden
Alex, may I ask you a question ...

Had the pleasure to listen to 5 minute repeaters from VC and 4 have been GORGEOUS, but the last one was not that impressive. Without seeing it and holding it in my hands I would have expected a different brand. With a sheet of paper it was louder, but I still missed that incredible "warmness", "smoothness" ... Somehow it was cold and the sound was more "technic" ... Question: Is there hope after a service in the headquarter? For sure it didn´t leave the factory like this, when it was sold. Oliver ps: No, it was not a fake!
which model was it? all VC repeaters are recorded and when the watch
10/26/2011 - 17:10
comes for servicing, the watchmakers recreate the sound the chimes had when leaving the workshops
Ref. 30010 ...
10/27/2011 - 17:17
caliber 1755, platinum case ... Since when does VC record the minute repeaters? 1992 or even before? Oliver
VC had stopped making repeaters in the late 50s so

no recording before cal 1755 :-)

a most stunning beauty. please keep us posted on what you decide

This incredible model I had the pleasure to discover this summer is a very very rare piece of art. Less than 20 ex were produced in this version and the last one was sold at the retail price of 350.000 euros in 2004. The sound is incredibly clear and the 37mm case fits very well on wrist. A real presence with a so nice purity. Love it at first sight. Should join a new Happy Collection for sure.  Envy you Stephen if you could get it. Best, Liger
I appreciate your opinions on this beauty!
