Pompe is no more.

My old friend Pompe has left us, Winston, my wife and me, and is, I'm sure, in the happy hunting-grounds,

chasing hares, deers, squirrells and of course some wild cats!

He reached the respectable age of 15,5 years, which means that it's even harder without him.

Despite of my profession it's not easier and the older you get, quite the opposite, as a matter of fact,

and to be honest you mourn a dog nearly more than a human. The dog is always your best friend,

he never talks behind your back or steal £ 30.000 when selling some of your watches, as an English 'friend' did.

The dog is always wagging his tail when you come home. One hour or 10 hours away, he's as happy!

Pompe was really stone deaf the last years, so many times when I couldn't sleep, that's about every night,

I stumbled over the big black dog in the darkness, he was extra tricky, since he slept on any place in this big house smiley

The last year he limped because of arthrosis in his left front leg, he had a weak back with instability,

depending on spinal stenosis, and the last months he couldn't control his colon.

So I'm sure he is happy now!

Pompe is no more.

The 'little one', Winston (10 years!) was really low the first week, but is now back in business again, ran away for  two hours yeaterday evening,

came back at 23.00 very satisfied and happy, expecting a tap on his head and some extra food - which he of course did get!

Pompe is no more.

As ususal I'm not writing about watches and will not do this time either smiley

Yesterday I felt as Winston, full of energy and with a big smile on my beautiful face,

because the sales manager at a big car dealer had invited me to "Audi Sport Tour 2014" and test drive their cars!

So I spend the whole afternoon driving all of their most exspensive models, and more, all Audi's RS models, he, he cool

Those who stuck with me, were this RS 6, 580 bhp, V8 engine, twin turbo, 8-speed tiptronic gearbox, which in an easy way to explain,

is that the next gear is already in action, before you automatically change gear. 0-100 in 3.9 sec....4WD

Top speed restricted to 250 km/h, easy to pass, but t's a 'family wagon' (!)

Pompe is no more.

Pompe is no more.

Pompe is no more.

Yep, you have of course guessed which the other was. Just imagine driving this flat out on a air force field. WOW!! cool

The R8, 550 bhp, V10 engine, 7-speed tiptronic gearbox. 0-100 in 3.5 sec. Top speed 319 km/h. 4WD of course!

Pompe is no more.

Pompe is no more.

Pompe is no more.

Pompe is no more.

Take care but if you can, put the pedal to the metal

Greetings Mats.

Being a dog owner I feel your sadness at losing a long-time friend as I'm sure others do too who have their own dogs. They really do become part of the family. We also had some cats who lived a long time and they were great friends. They too died in their old age.

Like your family you think they will be around forever and then one by one one your parents, your old friends and relatives die off and in some way it also severs your real connection with the past and reacquaints you with your own mortality.

Thank you for sharing your grief and your thrill of the R8. What a car!!

Warm regards,

Joseph

I am sorry for your loss

Matts, being newer here, I have not gotten to know you yet. However, I am truly sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing with us here. Pompe was beautiful and the pictures were great. Thankfully Winston is there to help you through your grief (and your family too).

Dear Doc,

I am so sorry to hear about Pompe. I have always been very fond of the Pompe and Winston stories from way back on the lounge. The pictures have also been very uplifting and being a dog rescuer for 40 years now, very joyful to have their company.

The cars look great and I wish I could be there to race those great machines.  Take good care and thanks for being Doc.           Best,  tim

Sorry to hear about Pompe, Matts...

But I see you swiftly change dogs into ponies ;-)

This RS6 is a real deal, a great excuse to buy a sports car... You definitely do it for the family ;-)

This is really sad Doc and

I know how it feels. My 14 year old cat died in Dec and you realise that they are so much more than pets.

but as you say: carpe diem

It's time to reflect...

Doc, I've been looking at a super collection of photographs featuring Pompe and Winston, both playing in the Sun and the Snow!

We've lost a good friend who has provided you, and your family, with lots of happy memories.

Give Winston a hug from me!

Sincerely

Tony

Sad news Doc

i feel for you and your family.

Doc, sorry for your loss. My in-laws had two dogs (which my wife)

was very close to and as a result I grew to be fond off. One died in late 2010 and one mid-2013. I know the feeling. They are more than pets. Losing them was sadder than losing relatives.

May Pompe rest in peace.

Unfortunatly I feel your pain...

Long ago we learded to keep our Weimaraners in pairs because after we lost our first one and we were without "everyone's best friend".

We recently lost our youngest companion's friend, Ruger. The search began on our way home from the vets a couple of months ago.

My wife left early this morning to attend a dog show a couple of hours away to see if see can hook us up with an appropriate breeder. Not to worry Doc, this is a show for trackers and hunters, not pretty boys and girls.

If Winston is like our Duke, he misses Pompe even more than you and your wife. Hopefully all of you will enjoy another family member shortly. Good hunting, Miki

So sorry to hear about your loss, doc.

Hello Doc.

It's been a while since our last conversation here, and it is truly unfortunate for us to get in touch again under these circumstances.

I can only imagine the pain of losing a loyal friend like Pompe, but at least we can take solace in the fact that, as you said, Pompe is surely in a better place now and free from worldly pain (and most probably looking after you from above).

Take care (especially when putting the pedal on the metal).

I am sorry to learn about Pompe

Some of my favorite posts on THL, since I joined and started mining the old threads, have been about Pompe and Winston.  In truth, I can easily say that dogs and especially Labs, are my favoite subject even when we are also discussing watches.  It is so hard losing our best friends at whatever age we find ourselves and at whatever age our best friends pass.  Thank you for sharing this with us and for all of the memories of Pomple that you have shared over the years.

Another favorite topic of mine is Audi, so the second part of your post got my engines revving again.  Thanks for that! Love that RS8!!!

Best,

Robert

My DEAR friends!

I do hope you understand how much you all mean to me, since I posted the message here,

at my only place in the cyber space.

I have no Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and still no Blog!

Perhaps I start a Blog, if I can get someone to help me hands on, since I have much to tell!

Once again all my old and new friends for your hearfelt sympathies, it really touched old
