posted on behalf of Dr 500: The 2 most beautiful modern chronographs?

Dr 500 asked me to post these scans for him but the opinions are mine (but I'm sure he shares them :-))

In the mid 90s Vacheron Constantin launched the Chronographe Historique (pictured hereunder in platinum) inspired directly from the gorgeous tear drop lug models from the 40s. This chronograph was one of the rare dress chronographs (meaning non chunky sporty) on the market and became and instant success (today it is starting to be come highly sought after colector's piece)

In 2003 the Chronographe Historique was replaced by the Malte Chronograph which a more contemporary design yet with the same "codes" as the Chronographe Historique: slim, elegant and severely cool :-) The Platinum version with the platinum dial is in my opinion one of if not THE most beautiful chronograph currently available!

Beautiful shots of beautiful watches… The platinum face looks amazing under natural light!!! It is a lot lighter than I previously though… IMO, the new model is 5x nicer than the previous one – Doc is a lucky man!

those are not Doc's watches! DR are his iinitials and 500 is equal to

Roman numerals: VC !!!

And yes Dr 500 IS a lucky man, I would be happy with any of those on my wrist :-)

ahh... sorry Doc and DR 500 for the confusion...

I though Doc was rebranding himself

I like the concept of the "dress" chrono a sporty yet chic and elegant

The Historiques is a true beauty

The Malte on its own is a handsome watch but next to the Historiques it looks a bit crosseyed the sub dials being too close together same as the Patek 5070

stop posting these photos of the Malte chrono its driving me nuts! I

Yes, back in 1999 I told my Father he should get the Historique Chrono.  He considered one briefly yg with black dial, but ended up going with the yg/black dial PP 5070 (a nice watch), but the VC was really a great value at the time.  Oh well, he is still happy with his PP so thats what matters.

Best regards,

Dino

Hi Victor,

Thats the watch my Dad considered prior to getting his 5070.  I've only seen the Historique Chrono in the yg/black dial combination in person once and it was very handsome.  Great watch Victor.

Best regards,

Dino
