Recent Acquisitions Part III

There was one new watch which was not released at the Salon itself. This one was released to me on late Monday in the privacy of the boutique and for me (of course), it was THE highlight. Despite the nice (IMHO) photos, the watch looks even better in the "flesh" on the wrist.
Now, you may be wondering about which watch this is and why it wasn't revealed with the others...
The clue is in the last photo
Enjoy!
Joseph

T'as raison, mon ami! Je voudrais faire une petite spectacle théatral! You're also right about the combination. That's why I wanted it to look like it does and why I am very pleased with it Regards, Joseph

You are full of surprises Joseph
02/06/2009 - 00:03
How many watches did you acquire? Your trip was worth to do it: spend some nice times with friends during a wonderful evening, acquire some watches and discover novelties... Best, Patrice

I know...its sooooo civilized. I'd love to do it every weekend The best part of course was spending time with friends. As beautiful as the watches are, nothing beats that! Regards, Joseph

02/06/2009 - 03:34
Many thanks, I'm very happy the way it turned out. I did see some drawing and renditions of the final design, but nothing prepared me for the real thing. Its nice to be shocked that way! Regards, Joseph
Very nice Joseph! What a way to cap your trip.
02/06/2009 - 00:43
Congratulations and you have a real treasure to commemorate your trip to Geneva this year. Cheers, Duncan
Re: Very nice Joseph! What a way to cap your trip.

Thanks, Duncan, It will definitely become an heirloom and will always bring back fond memories of Geneva and Paris. Regards, Joseph
Please forgive my ignorance...
02/06/2009 - 01:53
I know Les Cabinotiers are the ne plus ultra of Vacheron's creations, but which model is yours?  Obviously I spend too much time in the vintage section
Re: Please forgive my ignorance...
02/06/2009 - 02:02
This one of course!! Its based on a design from the 1960's which I also own, and feel its one of VC's most elegant designs. They designed a new case and refined the dial and added the automatic movement. I made the recommendations and they sent me multiple possibities and variations. I finally decided on this one which I felt maintained the vintage look but in a somewhat modern emphasis. And still had the simplicity and elegance that I was looking for. I think that the designers and staff at VC really were able to blend the 2 aspects in a perfect combination. Regards, Joseph
Ah ha! Fantastic Piece...one of a kind
02/07/2009 - 01:25

Your design is a perfect marriage of vintage aesthetic and modern mechanicals...you really captured the spirit of Vacheron Constantin

Once again Joseph, please adopt me (LOL)...
02/06/2009 - 02:55
and pass on at least one of your beautiful treasures!  I saw the 1755 Jubilee you posted and a platinum one has always been on my list as well.  Though we've never really met, I feel that this bespoke piece is a perfect representation of you and you collection - classic elegance with a modern movement.  May you enjoy them all for a very long time! BR, Dan

SWEEEEEEEET!!!!! Just love it, JB!
02/06/2009 - 05:39
Congratulations, congratulations, and congratulations JB. That is such a beauty! When I opened your post, I said to myself "Wow, JB got yet another beautiful vintage piece"!....Well, excuuuuse me! This one really takes the cake, JB.  I was really hoping for someone to show us a Bespoke piece...(Man, I keep getting more and more reasons to regret not making the trip this time around).  I would have loved to see this baby. JB, you really have to tell us more about it.  The dimensions, the choice of movements (is is a 2450? 2460?), how long it took to complete, the whole process if possible!!  Well, you know what I mean (I'll stop hear for fear of running out of exclamation points!). Again, congratulations (and I agree with what Dan said...I also want to be adopted). All the best, and a happy weekend with your new darling! Kazumi

Thank you very much, Kazumi. I will try to put something together in the next week or so. I have to go through a lot of emails to find the relevant ones. And I'll see what I still have about the design concepts. Thank you for you kind comments. Best, Joseph
a bespoke VC, a collector's dream. I agree with Kazumi you should
02/06/2009 - 10:32
tell us more on the different creative steps and it would be great if you could post scans of the different variations VC had offered. May it time only happy moments.

Thank you Alex, I'm happy to be able to share it with you. But you know, you're indirectly responsible for its creation. I'll try to put together a little essay this week on the watch. Regards, Joseph
I love it

Merci, Berny, I'm glad we had a chance to get together in geneva. Regards, Joseph
u got me at first sight. thought it was a well preserved vintage .....
02/06/2009 - 15:44
only to find out it is a piece unique. i wonder what is your initiative of an automatic movement ? is it the inhouse movement with the seal? anyhow, it is a beautiful creation by you, congrats. that got me thinking that VC should get a panel of you guys to contibute to their les historique collection.
Re: u got me at first sight. thought it was a well preserved vintage .....
02/06/2009 - 18:27
Thank you for your compliments. I hope to put something together with more details soon. Regards, Joseph
Joseph, you don't cease to amaze me...
02/08/2009 - 22:26
This bespoke model, apart from being every VC collector's dream-come-true, is a true marriage of history and heritage (you already have a very similar vintage you showed me at SIHH 2008, right?) with the best of the modern watchmaking technique embodied in this state-of-the-art movement... wonder if it bears the Genea Halmark since I haven't noticed it in the caseback and movement pictures?  Wear this amazing watch in the best of health!
Re: Joseph, you don't cease to amaze me...
02/09/2009 - 00:50
Many thanks, my good friend, Sometimes I even amaze myself! You are right about the other watch. I will try to post pics of the two together in a week or so. BTW it does indeed have the Geneva seal as one would expect. Its just cut off in the 2 photos of the movement by the left edge of the rotor. Best regards, Joseph
