Reference 47247 or 47245?

Hi Alex,

Recently while talking to a friend, he told me that he has bought this preowned watch ref. 47247 made for the 247 anniversary of Vacheron Constantin few years back and limited to 247 pieces.

He remembered that I also have one, thus he contacted me about this watch:

Reference 47247 or 47245?

He asked me what is the actual reference to this watch and naturally I told him what I remembered, reference 47247. Then he told me that he might have gotten a marriage watch as the back case of his watch shows reference 47245. I immediately took out mine to see, and indeed it is 47245!!!???

Reference 47247 or 47245?

So, both our watches are with the same reference, and that makes us a little more relax and besides, we have the limited edition number engraved on the side case, which also shows the same total number of 247 pieces LE:

Reference 47247 or 47245?

Now, my question to Vacheron Constantin is what is the actual reference number to this particular model? If it is reference 4727, why are both our watches shown as 47245. If it is 47245, why are all the press materials and almost all web-sites that talk about this watch mentioning this as 47247?

Reference 47247 or 47245?

Hope you can help us on this Alex.

Thanks and regards,

KokChoon

I've seen a mint, pre-owned one at an agent recently, lots of dough...

The open work 31 day retrograde!! An absolutely stunning

watch. Your a lucky man KC

The communication around this watch was a bit weird, it is a ref 47245 but to differentiate it with the regular production model every one ( including the brand) started calling it the 247 (due to the fact that it was made in 247 pieces and was also made in celebration of the 247th annivresary of VC).

So in a way you're watch is a 27245 aka 247!

Enjoy it in good health and great seeing you on the Lounge

Thanks for your kind explanation, but....
10/23/2007 - 11:13

Thank you Alex, for your kind explanation, but both the warranty paper and price tag, it was printed as 47247! Shouldn't VC printed it the same way as engraved on the case?

Having the paper stated as 47247 and my watch 47245, I am not sure if that would post a problem in the future in servicing if VC's records are to be shown as 47245 internally as what you have mentioned!

Strange this kind of thing happen in this computer age in the 21st century and I thought only archive of vintage watch records have these kind of problems ;) I am working on some old records on another brand and are really having lots of problem trying to understand and "imagine" what had happened....

Thanks again my friend.

Cheers

KokChoon

I didn't realise you had a different ref n° on the papers. I've
10/23/2007 - 14:14

asked VC and am waiting for their reply.

I think, and this is only my personnal opinion, that prior to 2004-2005 VC somewhat lacked consistency and organisation in the way things were done: make fantastic watches but the "administrative" aspects sometimes left to be desired!

I'll get back to you ASAP

hold your seat, here's the official explanation
10/23/2007 - 16:14

Your watch is ref 47425 with a "technical" reference 47427.

Huh?

Ok here goes: a limited edition with a different dial but on an existing case keeps the case's ref n°, in this case (no pun intented) ref 47425 as inscribed on the back of the watch, however the paperwork indicate the special series ref n° which is 47427.

Now where did I put that asprin?

Hey, look at it this way>>

That makes this specific watch even more desirable ...

Jian

PS. How different is the dial?

here's a scan of the regular 74245

I was also surprised in 2006 when discovered they in Geneva boutique had no any traces of my 47245 limited edition (of 25 pcs ) in yellow gold. It was purchased there in 1999.

May be someone remember of this limited edition?

 Happy New Year to everybody

I am usually not a big fan of skeletton watches, because although I like to see the inner workings, I find them to hard to read. This model doesn't have this problem, it is a real beauty!

Thanks a lot for the amazing photos, it had been a while since I had seen one...

Not only you Veillotron!
10/22/2007 - 23:28

Both Alex and I(!) have been advertising to get one

But it's like that, some day you just have plain luck!

I don't know what we shall call your adventure luck,

because it could have gone worse, or bad luck to be in that cab.

Anyway I know that in some time you be a very, very lucky man

Cheers

and

get well soon

Doc

yup Doc, I never managed to get one of these and they are so rare on
10/23/2007 - 12:32

the secondary market

Alex, Doc here's a hint for you...
10/23/2007 - 14:57

log on to xxxx that's where I have seen the Retrograde 247. They also had this interesting LE Royal Eagle...

Thanks Radek, I'm sorry but I had to delete
10/23/2007 - 19:23

the link to the dealer. I know you and know that your intention was to help but I don't want to set a precendent where different dealers would come on board and link to their own sites under cover of a normal chat.

So to all who are reading, if like Radek you want to help a Lounger get rid of his hard earned cash on a watch please send a private mail and don't post links to the dealer's site

Thanks

Sorry, Alex - my intentions were tear-drop & crystal clear...
10/24/2007 - 17:41

...

since you know I have no buisness in Singapore whatsoever...

By the way, did you check on it anyway?

No problem Radek, I very well know that you were just trying to
10/24/2007 - 18:19

help.

I did check it out but unfortunately some watches I had ordered a long...long time ago seem to be arriving by the end of the year so my cash is tied up

Re: Not only you Veillotron!
10/23/2007 - 23:37

Doc, I do feel I am lucky: I am alive, my health is improving, I have a beautiful wife that loves me, and I have fantastic family and friends. Oh, and I do have on order the most beautiful VC IMO… Since my watch budget will be 0 after getting the 47212, if I do come across a 47247, I will let you and Alex know about it. If you are able to find all these ultra-rare vintage models, I’m sure it is only a question of time before you get a 47247 on your wrist! Cheers! Veillotron

Would absolutely love the 247, but seem impossible to find.

I will likely pick up a similarly gorgeous 245. It has a nice vintage feel about it.
