Refinished Dial

Another fleabay item that attracted my attention:

Refinished Dial

The seller didn't know if the dial was refinished but at least provided hi-res scans which tell the story:

Refinished Dial

You can also see the marks on the original indexes where they were pryed off before the soleil finish was reapplied:

Refinished Dial

On first glance, the watch is very appealing in rose gold with a beautiful 1008/BS movement.  Without the original dial, however, I wouldn't consider it a collector's piece.

Unfortunately, it's true condition is not disclosed in the auction. Refinished Dial
thanks for the info Dean, however considering that the dial is

nevertheless well done I would still consider it.

Not the worst job.
Agreed....

as far as redials go, this isn't a bad job.  A bit more attention to getting the right font and not forgetting the Swiss at 6 o'clock, and it would be excellent. I guess my question for discussion is what impact does a redial have on collectability?  For me, the font really jumps out.

As a coin and award collector, guess that the collection value of such dial is small. But we are speaking about the complete watch, not about separate wheel or stone, that's why, in some cases, it's better to have such dial, then to have nothing :) Of course, IMHO.

Jewel, not stone :)
Speaking of coin collecting....

I still regret when I bought my daughter a coin set of old pennies to start her on a hobby....and cleaned them all.  A collector later told me of my mistake and pointed out one coin that "would have" been worth quite a bit.
That's the danger with e-ay...

The pics, even enlarged, are very hard to find mistakes at ! Good job tick-talk But to the price at the moment, it would be worth it for a newbie as a start ! I hate these overdone dial restorations, which is so frequent, in especially Germany... Cheers Doc
Good point! You have to begin somewhere...nt
