Results from the Geneva May auctions

Antiquorum on May 9 and 10 and Christie's on May 11 held their Geneva auctions (Sotheby's is today but they don't have any interesting VCs). Sales (other than for exceptionnal pieces) are tough. Pateks and Rolexes that sold within an eyeblik a year ago are either not selling or going for much lower amounts. The market is no longer ready to pay ridiculous prices.

An indication that there may however be a change in the economic climate is the fact that many dealers were buying and I don't see any reason for them to buy if they do not think they have clients to sell to.

Regarding Vacheron watches Antiquorum had an amazing selection of time only models in different cases and shapes. They all sold rather well and obviously there is a community of VC aficionados willing to buy. Of course the prices were not extraordinarily high but nevertheless the pieces all went rather close or over their high estimates.

LOT 73: Les Metiers d’Art, Tribute to the Great Explorers “Zheng He” Ref. 47070 I love this watch it is so original and rare and the high price is truly justified. Estimate: 35,000 CHF - 45,000 CHF it sold for CHF 60,000

Lot 77:

Antiquorum sold several vintage Vacheron automatics.

They included 1019, 1071 and 1072 movements. They sold quite well.
