The right way to start the New Year!

Happy 2015 everbybody.  I had lunch today with a few of our passionate Loungers today and I thought it was a wonderful way to start the year....great food, great friends, and some GREAT watches:

One of our group is the real photographer and he took some gorgeous pictures, which I hope will be posted here.

WOW WOW and WOW! What a collection and having the 3 different Saltarellos in

one place is a treat heart

Great job, Dan!!!

You took some excellent photos, to say the least!  It is really a thrill for a guy like me to see so many special Vacherons in one place, I literally kept jumping up out of my seat.  LOL.

Some of the highlights, obvious from your terrific photo report:

  • two achingly beautiful Audubons (not one, but two!!!), and my first encounter with these rare birds
  • three generations of Vacheron Constantin sports watches, one of them exceedingly rare
  • a lovely and surprising cal. 1006 (how often does one see oe of those, and I bet it is unknown to all but a very few collectors)
  • a nice selection of vintage V&Cs (are you paying attention, Dean?) dating as far back as the 1940s and from each decade following, 50s, 60s and 70s
  • and of course, all three metals of the Saltarello represented (how nice to bring these three together for live photos)
  • lost in there somewhere is an Excellence Platine 81180, a Mercator, oh, and just a ref. 4178 on the ultra rare Gay Freres bracelet!

Better than the watches on the table was the assemblage of passionate collectors.  Nothing beats sharing this passion with other like-minded, crazy fellows.

Best regards,

Robert

Excellent Dan!

Looks like a fantastic variety and great examples of haute horologie. Some of those look like Michaels :-)

Looking forward to more photos.

Regards,

Joseph

He was our special guest because he traveled the farthest to get to lunch.:-)

And he brought all those truly special pieces to share! heart

It was well worth the trip - for many reasons

The company and watches were stupendous, and with Paul and Dan there to take better photos than anything I could produce, I am relieved of my responsibility to post pictures of my recent acquisition. Thanks to Robert for organizing, and see some of you again soon in Geneva!
That collection is better than most boutiques!

I think Alex summed it up well - a lot of Wow's.  That is a great collection of watches and collectors as well.

Amazing
01/06/2015 - 16:23

Thanks Dan for posting. I simply can't find a watch in the pictures I don't find amazing and peculiar in its own typology

Thanks for sharing and Compliments to the lucky owners for both, the watches and the gtg.

Wish a very Happy New Year to Everybody.

A most delicious buffet!

Sounds like a wonderful occasion.  That platter of horological delectibles would whet anyone's appetite.  Your grouping of vintage and modern looks so comfortable together and speaks volumes about how the wonderful heritage of Vacheron Constantin flows seamlessly from the past to present to future heart.

Now for the really good pictures...

with the permission of Paul Boutros (one of the attendees), here is the true eye-candy and what Respo decribed in words:

The youngest watch of the group, but what a baby!  EP collection, with the most desired double-digit number in Asia of this limited edition piece.

And finally, I am sticking in my latest acquisition.  From the Structura collection, with cal. 1006.  This is actually an engraved cal. 1003 that has been reversed so the dial side is actually the "normal" back of the movement.  It allows one to watch the movement in action.  All the gears are running in the opposite direction of a traditional movement in order to make sure the hands are still turning in a clockwise direction.  (Otherwise we might be in a "Benjamin Buttons" situation)

Ahh, the lefty OS resurfaces.

Did you get a picture of the interesting inscription on the clasp?  That and your 1006 illustrates for me how VC never did anything half-way.  Many other left-handed watches are accomplished simply by rotating a conventional movement 180 degrees, but VC constructed the caliber to operate as normal for winding, setting and date adjustment from the crown by those most adroit with their left hand.  Same dilligence with the 1006, as you've described heart.

I saw the inscription, but didn't take a picture of it. :-( (nt)

What an incredible array of masterpieces! I would have bought tickets for this show. It would be great to set up a VC gathering in Socal. Hope it happens some day. Definitely humbled and in awe of each of these time pieces.

But when I got home from lunch and entered the house through the back door...I met some unexpected visitors in my backyard:

There were 3 deer in total, but the biggest one happened to be closest to me.

Deer me, what next?...
01/06/2015 - 22:25

Dan, you have captured an array of VC beauties plus some friendly visitors yes...

Whilst I've enjoyed the 'real photographer' submissions, your own efforts are worthy of a praise or two. Well done!

I take this opportunity to wish both yourself and Daisy all good wishes for 2015.

Kind regards

Tony

Deer me? You didn't? Yes, you did.
01/06/2015 - 23:37

That makes me slap my forhead like Homer Simpson and say "doe".

Thanks guys for the punning humour, I like it. :-) (nt)

Hi JB, I tried sending you a message

But it kept getting returned as undeliverable because "mailbox with exceeded".  Can you send me another PM with an alternate address, or clean out your mailbox? cheeky
