Even his own website doesn't have details, but the news is certainly spreading in the watch community crying.  Dr. George Daniels, CBE, was a driving force in the resurgence of mechanical watch design and the pride of British horology.  Perhaps even a revolutionary figure, but only time will tell.  I'm sure sales of his memoir; All In Good Time, will increase.
Sad news indeed

I feel honoured to have met the man last year at SalonQP. RIP G
Always sad when some active person dies,

I don't know if he still was active, but a year ago I saw that he still worked together with his adept, Roger Smith. I read not so long ago, that this world famous man had only created 37 watches by himself!! He was CBE and awarded Doctor of Science. His mark on the horological map will forever be the co-axial escapement. I have his book.Quite expensive and very, very difficult to read! I admit that I have only read half part of it.It's to professional, ...but some day, under a pine in the shadow with the water below my feet smiley He had a long and very special life. I eagerly wait for a good written biography! Second book from top RIP Doc

A real genius! RIP No one lives forever and at least he left us a great legacy. We can be thankful for that. Joseph
From very humble beginnings...

...George Daniels was a genuinely self-taught man. Moreover, he grew up in a London that had turned its back on watchmaking. A truly great watchmaker - and I'm proud to say I met him at last year's Salon QP, courtesy of VC. RIP and hopefully Roger Smith will take on his mantle. Will be interesting to see what impact the co-axial escapement has in the long run. Assume it's still under patent to Omega, so hard to say at the moment whether others will take it up.
Having had the pleasure in meeting him I can say that he was an

extremely modest man considering his achievements. RIP Sir Daniels
