Shanghai Maison currently has an Exhibition of vintage CRs

The Chronometre Royale is possibly my favorite collection of VC watches (I love the combination of a technical, time-keeping, focus plus the artistic beauty).

If you get a chance to be in Shanghai, please do drop into the Maison and take a tour.  They look so much better in person than in pictures

I've read about these tiny, 11 ligne movement CRs, but seeing and holding one in my hand was really something special, heart

Here is a comparison of the 22 and 11 ligne movement watches: side-by-side

This next won was a real surprise treat, It is a CR made for the Turkish market that Alex mentioned in his Chronometre Royale 1907 Article (the one with the guiloche dial AND enamel case back)

To show that "Chronometre Royale" was not just a Trademark name to imply technical, accurate, time-keeping: here is a CR used as an actual Naval Deck Watch

This exhibit looks terrific. I would love to see it, but no chance to do so. Thank you for the overview. Did you see your "next" VC among those displayed. ;-) Best, respo
Well...I saw a couple that looked interesting...

The Ref 6694 and the 11 ligne PW.  But I've never seen one of these tiny pocket watches come up at auction, I'm sure that although many CRs were made during it's very long production period...not many were that size. Thanks for the comments and glad you liked it, smiley BR, Dan
great exhibition, are Chinese watch enthusiasts also interested in

vintage?
I think they would be interested...
02/28/2012 - 03:22
if they were told the story behind the vintage pieces.  I find that if a specific watch, or time period, has a background story that can accompany the piece...it attracts a lot more interest and attention.  But that is the same for entusiasts all around the world, not just in China, wink BR, Dan

Not much into pocketwatches but love vintage VCs from the 50's, reference 6368 is absolutely gorgeous! I love those strong, powerful lugs.
Thanks Peter, I just wish I could get a better picture of ref. 6368

but they couldn't find the right key to unlock that display case, sad  BR, Dan
Great photo tour

Your pictures are great Dan; those are some real treasures!  Love the contrast in size between the small and large CR PWs.  The Turkish piece certainly is the highlight for me though heart.  Was there any reference to the CR "Ship's Helm" desk watches?
The contrast between the big and large PW was my favorite

Unfortunately the "Ship's Helm" Desk watch was also in its own display case and they couldn't find the right key to unlock it.  Therefore I didn't get a chance to see the back.   BR, Dan
I'm sure the exhibition will attract much attention...

Thank you Dan for highlighting this attractive collection. I agree with your sentiments. Good wishes Tony
Thanks Tony! I still remember the great story about your CR!!! (nt)

both pocket and wrist, and live happily ever after. Alex, any chance that these boutique exhibitions can be announced on the Hour Club? I'd love to know about NY exhibits. Bill

I totally agree Bill, the CR is a motif to my collection...

Though I may stray from it a little bit, I try to have some coherence in terms of chronometric focus and exterior beauty that I see in CRs.  That goes for my VC collection and the non-VCs as well.
