Some Wildlife Pictures (non-VC content)

from my recent visit to Banff.  Some are a bit grainy because of the distance and the shortcomings of my little pocket camera Some Wildlife Pictures (non-VC content).

Unfortunately I didn't have my camera handy for a lone elk that seemed trapped in the middle of a frozen river and was looking back and forth trying to decide whether to go forward or retreat!  Later there were two young bull moose playing at head-butting.  Most exciting was a lynx that ran across the road right in front of me then stopped at the side to look as I passed...it was huge!  Even a pine martin bounced across the road with it's unusual springing gait.

I know these aren't VC-related but thought you might enjoy anyway.

Cheers,
Dean

It makes me even more impatient for our vacation in Finland at the end of January. I can't wait. I'm a big wildlife lover and I could spend ours just watching and observing. In June last year, we had the great chance to spend 2 weeks in beautiful Uganda. An amazingly gorgeous country where everyone was so nice to us. So here are a few of our pictures to share with you all. Hope you enjoy them baby mountain gorilla in Bwindi Baby mountain gorilla A lady rhino Mummy an baby hippo Carmine bee-eaters Kyamboura Gorge.

You are an amazing wildlife photographers. Hope you didn't get too close to the cute but evidently dangerous hippos :)   Dean - I have relatives scattered across Canada. Maybe it's time to visit some of them LOL.

Hippos were fine (we were on a boat and the zoom works miracles ) but we were on foot for the rhinos. They are trying to reintroduce them as the native ones were wiped out during the terrible Amin Dada era.  It is a small park with 6 white rhinos (3 females and 3 males) and you approach them on foot with two rangers. When you are only a few feet from those up to 3 tons beauties and they get up, believe me, you feel very very small and very respectful
And I would add that it is not the photographer who makes

the picture great (in my case anyway), it's the subject. And believe me, those pictures are from from rendering the true beauty of all we've seen.
Beautiful wildlife pics Dean and Tacha.
