Something unusual happened yesterday........

and I was wondering if anything like this has happened to you and what the circumstances were.

I was teaching a class yesterday and while the other facilitator was teaching her piece and I was sitting in the front of the room next to one of the participants and when we took a break he said to me  "You're wearing a beautiful Vacheron Constantin.....I like that a lot...very cool." I had on my RG Malte Chrono with a navy strap.

I was shocked that someone would recognize the brand.  Sometimes (rarely still) you get a compliment like "nice watch...what is it" but I never expected that someone would recognize that it was a VC.

We then discussed watches a little and he said he was looking for a dress watch so we shot the breeze a little about different brands...it was a fun little sidebar but in the 15 months I've owned that watch that's never happened to me before.  As a matter of fact, no one has ever noticed what brand of watch I was wearing ever.

Out of curiousity, What's been your experience?

Best regards,

Tom

Hi Tom, That's very unusual indeed. That individual had likely already been doing their homework! I never had any recognize any watch I was wearing although I have received the occasional compliment. Someone in an elevator made a flattering comment about my lange Datograph but didn't know what it was. I received one or two fascinated enquiries when I've worn a tourbillon simply because they had never seen that type of watch. I think the vast majority have heard of Rolex, Patek Breitling and Omega simply from advertising. Nice watch, BTW Regards, Joseph
Thank you Joseph......

Prior to yesterday, I had the same experience as you which made it all the more shocking!  I appreciate your compliment as well. Best regards, Tom

I was interviewing an expat candidate last year for an executive level position in China.  During the interview, which took about 2 hours, I would occassionally stare at his watch.  It looked like it a VC perpetual calendar - which surprised me.  At the end of the interview I asked the gentleman if he noticed that I found his watch interesting.  He said he noticed, but that it was a fake VC that his wife recently got for him.  I told him I was a big VC fan and should him the 31-day retrograde that I was wearing.  He asked "I hope this doesn't influence your decision in terms of the position", I assured him it wouldn't.  (I already had other, stronger, candidates in hand ). Expat?

What does expat mean?
sorry, expat meaning expatriate...
02/26/2009 - 05:38
in this case - an individual of one nationality working and living in a different country.  The one I was referring to is an American living and working in China.  Expats often get additional allowances, tax breaks and benefits in order to entice them to take these overseas assignments for multi-national organizations. Dan......Yeah right!

you may well remember my first story on a visit to a barber shop?! my hair-dresser turned out to be a fake VC lover... And this is what I found him wearing on his wrist last time I went to get a hair-cut No comparison shot as I had my Toledo PT on and I couldn't muster a courage to get them side by side

Where in the world does he get all those fakes from???

Where does he get all the fakes from......

My Junk Mail/Spam filter is full of offers from web-sites offering fake watches. I sometimes wonder where they got the e-mail address from. Ray

Where indeed?!

It has during 30 years as a doc, only happened to me once. Remember that I expose my wrist frequently, when I examine my patients. I wore this, for the first and only time, at the practice. It was about 7 years ago, and every time since than, the patient has asked for it, about 4 times a year Watches wasn't as big as today than. This is 47.5 mm in diameter.
