Spending some time with the VC ref 4695 aka Cornucopia

Many Vacheron Constantin desigs from the 1950s were wild, creative, audacious and anything but tame.  Often inspired by the American automobile designs of that period, the lines of the watches were fluid and taught. Just think of the Cioccolatone.

I recently spent some tome with the Ref 4695 also called Cornucopia thanks to the shape of its lugs.

The watch may seem small with a 24mm x 24mm case but with the large unusual lugs the visuzal im^pression is that of a much larger watch.

Beating withing is VC's 458/3B

Looks great on your wrist and I love the dial

I also like the micro-regulating system on the movement.  Its funkiness matches the rest of the watch perfectly :-)

that side view is very unique

MASSIVE LUGS laugh.  You've heard the Skirt Length Theory; shorter skirts means better economic times.  Wonder if that will eventually apply to watches, when smaller timepieces will reflect improving outlooks.

Real beauty Alex! Just oozing V&C DNA and with that

we can see two different versions of 4695, one is similar to pictured watch (but guilloche seems to be slightly different), the other is without small seconds. Why VC used the same ref Nr?

The ref. # only refers to the case.

So changes in dials and/or movements traditionally do not change the Ref. number. (Very modern VC Ref. #s stopped using this practice).

I've seen other watches where VC uses a movement that has small seconds, but don't attach the small seconds hand in order to create a two hand watch.

Thanks for explanation, Dan!

enlightened

But I think its logical to refer it to the movement and functions AND to the case )) IMO wink

Thanks for sharing, Alex.

You're right! The large lugs do make it look like a larger watch. Definitely looks good on your wrist.

Interesting guilloché pattern too. Looks different with different lighting...something which is true of many guilloché patterns.

Love the design, the guilloche dial, the lugs.  The whole watch is just sublime.

I was tempted to buy a 4695 a year or so ago but I was put off by the size.  The Helm watch (4708/9) is similarly distinctive with its outrageous bezel but it is ridiculously small on a male wrist and I thought that the 4695 might be something similar.  However, the 4695 actually looks good on your wrist!!
