Taking a break, Designing Malte Contemporaine

A topic that should like Radek

Thinking of what could be next product in VC, I thought it could be Malte.
Historiques and Métiers d'arts are always wonders and surprises from VC.
Patrimony, Overseas and Quai de l'Ile are still recent and really great watches.
Even if Malte was recently modified I find it still a little souvenir from the past years. It is very traditionnal and not my prefered collection, I must say, but some love it.

Wo why not something complementary, a Malte Contemporaine?

Taking a break, I had fun trying to design and respecting Vacheron codes:

-It shoudln't be a big watch but a small one making it charming and discreet, otherwise it is too much with such a design imho Taking a break, Designing Malte Contemporaine
38mm wide with 45 mm from lugs to lugs)

-Platinum TV case with some little brushed straight surface on the lugs. It is modern but not too bold for a contemporary collection (or?).

-A typical brushed salmon dial (maybe not easy to see but differently brushed parts, Sun, Vertical, circle)

-Hands are not far from "sword hands" I loved and a bit more modern.

-As the traditionnal Vacheron buckle, the crown should be also in this spirit of VC details.
I love the maltese cross and after all it is the name of the collection, so I played a lot with it, on the case dial and crown.

Do you like it? Would you buy it?

Your avatar was pretty bold at hist time (Design, size,) and still remains imho do you like it? Francois.
Interesting idea - how about a...

rubber or ceramic bezel?? DLC case?  I know it's not VC, but the combination of old and new can work well - Malte Black being an example.
Well...

A bezel would be strange on such a TV case ? For a DLC I can change the color no pb  in fact , I wanted to stay in the "malte" spirit, very classy not going sporty like the Overseas. Francois

This is what I had in mind, a Bucherer TV case with rubber surround. Maybe bezel is the wrong word. Anyway I think it works; doubt VC would, though.click here to see the post
I didn't think of that
11/13/2010 - 21:33
It makes it more sporty , I don't think VC woudl go in that direction but the mixing is interesting. Thanks for your input
quite audacious, like the crown guards!

Crown guards are making the crown not so easy to realize  technically and mount but gives more presence than without imho.

Could you please delete the first two posts and this one , Firefox made me a joke thanks Francois
Serious potential

Reminds me of the tonneau-shaped references from the 1970's, with some daring updates.  The new caliber 1120 would be perfect for it

Absolutely

These design were nice. A bit more research on the dial and the case would make it better imho.
a quite bold design, Francois! A platinum TV case - sure I like it!!!

Although I don't believe VC would ever copycat PP in that respect... I always had a weakness for a salmon dial and I also like the concept of a Contemporaine dial incorporated into other case shapes Way to go, Francois!
Thanks Radek !

Touched You are not alone to have heavy psychiatric problems with salmon dials . What Vacheron showed us in Münich with the Asprey tourbillon drove me totally nuts   On a more serious note I never ever thought of Patek designing it, really ! Patek made "only"  Grandes Complications recently with a TV shape, the new rattrapante and rattrapante QP, and before the 5020. The style is also very aged, a very nice art deco style indeed. IMHO: PP has a really opposite style of Vacheron, Patek is all soft/slack design with complex shapes. And very very simple dials (too much simple for my taste). VC is more "razor edge" purely design case with complex and amazing dials, and just more modern. I tried to respect that as much as I could, and not going to Grandes Complications but to something very simple and modern. (I forgot the central seconds but a small one at 6 is another possibility). What could be interesting is to have it not on a strap but on a bracelet, a kind of super overseas. Would make it sportier without loosing the classy touch of it. my 2 cents
Amazing work Francois!

I really really like it! Similar to Dean, my first thought when seeing your creation was "updated Batman lugs!" In view humble view, this does not fit within the Malte collection, it would have to be a piece on its own - it is too aggressive and powerful a design to be classified as a modern Malte.  I love the hands, the hour markers, (and the small crosses on the inside rim), the crown guards and the crown itself.  In summary, a "razor sharp" design! Congrats! Cheers,  Francois
Thanks!

A congrat from someone with a taste of "excellence" makes me very happy I will send some details of the dial and of the crown, even if the watch on his own won't be produced by VC. I do believe in miracle but maybe not to that point , these details can be really interesting. Every Vacheron owner is so pleased with this fantastic ardillon Buckle. Those kind of details are really important to please the customer, that is one strength of Vacheron, it has to be developped. cheers Francois
