a tale of my search for the 1755 ... ( a tale of a gentleman)

dear alex,

this is duplicated from the purists, if not appropriate, pls delete it. i felt obligated to duplicate it here because it concerns an earlier post here for opinion too and a vacheron:

some time back, i posted here for an opinion whether to buy the 1755 day date model without the box and papers but at a good price. many purists are concerned with the provenance of the watch, i took the advise and felt that perhaps the watch doesn't belong to me this time round. in my life, i have learnt to take hints from nature and believe that good things in life are begotten without much struggle. true enough, that day happened earlier than i expected here on the purists collector's market.

on 5 jun, vilit posted the watch i desired for sale at a more than reasonable price. without hesitation, i answered his ad by an email, asking some mundane questions about condition , box and papers etc. on his ad, price was an amount + freight. since his asking price was more than reasonable, i did not ask for any discount and asked him to ship with freight and insurance to protect both parties at my expense. guess what was his answer? his voluntarily agreed to pay for both !!! his exact words was " i am thinking to absorbing all the freight and insurance for u ". WOW, i was blown away by his grace.

well, this is not all. later that day, i found out that one of my friend is hoildaying in bangkok where the watch was, so i asked vilit whether he will trust me enough to pass the watch to my friend since he is returning to hk tonight (saturday) whereas my transfer will only reach him monday so that he can save the hassle on the freight and insurance and be sure that the watch can reach me in safe hands. and amazingly he agreed and what else, he thrown in a VC deployant buckle in PG to match the watch for free.

i quote " money and good manners makes the gentleman" by Benjamin Franklin, vilit is definitely one. this is by far, my happiest watch purchase, that not only i acquired the watch which i desired, i chanced on an opportunity to meet a gentleman and a friend through our exchanges in emails and sms pivoting on the same hobby, which has become more significant than the watch already.

Not only have you just acquired a fantastic watch but most important

First of all, congratulations on a great watch.  I've had mine for almost two years now but my affection for it has not faded one bit.  I am sure you will love it (especially with the way you and the watch were brought together).

It is not too often that we get to meet real gentlemen (especially when business is involved) so it is good to hear that there are still a few good souls around.  It is also very nice of you to share your experience.  These episodes, like good watches, should be shared to inspire all of us.

Wear your new watch in the best of health.

That watch is now as special as can be and Vilit is a true man (nt)
