Today Nov 6th is the 125th anniversary of the Geneva Seal BUT....

To fight couterfeit watches presenting themselves from being from Geneva, the Canton (State) of Geneva  set out a series of stringent tecnical and aesthetic criteria (the movement also needed to be assembled and finished in Geneva) in 1886 which dramatically increased the price of the movements, the later being awarded the Hallmark of Geneva.

VC's first use of the Hallmark of Geneva was in 1901 and starting 2000 every inhouse VC caliber comes with this Hallmark.

A new independent governmental organisation called Time Lab was set up a few years ago work on new criteria for the Hallmark...stay tuned as an announcement will be coming soon.....
