A true watchmaking Apostle: Mr Ghotbi at the Salon QP !

The 2010 Salon QP took place in One Marylebone, a former church which is now used for special events or exhibitions.

Vacheron Constantin was one of the exhibitors and during the Salon, the visitors could appreciate a wide range of the current Vacheron watches including the Maki-e and some of the most complicated ones.

An engraver was also present: the way she was able to decorate the casebacks or the rotor of the skeletonized QP impressed us a lot. She explained us that the decoration of this rotor was inspired by the Eiffel Tower:

The Maki-e watches and the tools & materials required to create these dials with this lacquer technique:

But Alex was not only present to meet the collectors in Vacheron booth: he was also involved in the Salon as a speaker. The topic of his conference was to explain why he collects Vacheron watches.

A very religious atmosphere for a watches exhibition and a conference about Vacheron:

This slide is maybe for me the one which best describes Vacheron: Vacheron is obviously a classic brand but with always a subtle touch of originality. The brand manages to mix technical and artistic skills to create an unique style.

Alex prepared us a surprise. He didn't come with empty pockets. In fact, the conference attendees could see a large selection of Vacheron calibers. They are thin or thick, simple or complicated but always with the same care of details. A single word came to my mind when I saw them: diversity.

So what is the answer to the first question ? Why does Alex collect Vacheron watches ? I would say it is a bit a mix of everything: a strong historical background, technical mastery, impressive finishings, a touch of originality, the ability to put together the artistic and the horological worlds, that's maybe the winning combination for Vacheron.

I would like to thank a lot the whole Vacheron team and Alex for the warm welcome ! And thanks to Mr James Gurney for the organisation of this event.
