Two guys walk into a sushi joint…

Well, you know how the story goes.  The best part of pursuing our passion for watches and particularly Vacheron Constantin, are the people you meet and befriend along the way.  I finished the week off brilliantly with a mini-GTG with Dan Shao.  Dan was kind enough to make the trip to Philly where we enjoyed a good sushi lunch, chatted about life and watches and made a quick visit to a local AD to see and talk about some more watches.

Dan brought some nice objets de desire.

Luckily I had brought the necessary tools to open her up as Dan quickly offered to do once he saw the pocket knife.

Isn’t that a beauty?  It weighs a ton – such a substantial piece, and just gorgeous.

The T-Bird, which I did not realize was and is the only VC to have a rotating bezel, is a really wonderful piece. I fell in love with this one over lunch. heart The red shark skin strap really works on this watch.

Dan understands how crazy I am about Vacheron ephemera and recognized a kindred spirit.

Hmmm…this is a sickness.crying

The other folks in the restaurant must have thought we were crazy.surprise

We are fortunate to have Dan in our community.  I look forward to our next meeting, Dan.  I can’t wait to see what new VC ephemera you have picked up by then.

Best regards,

Robert

What a weekend!

This has become a great watch weekend.  May I echo your sentiments regarding Dan and how he has added so much to THL (I know he's blushing....) and just a really great person (not being influenced at all by his love of V&C wink).  Thanks so much for sharing pictures of your rendevous - the visual representation of how past inspires present at VC, and together they shape the future! Now someone please share the story behind that medallion!!!!
blush, blush, blush :-)

Dan will have to get back to you and us about the medallion.  I can tell you I was a little nervous when he offered to open his gorgeous deck watch with the VC pocket knife.  Although I have seen our Bill work his magic with that knife, and I have been told it is the tool of choice among VC watchmakers.  ;-) Best, Robert
The pleasure was all mine!!!

I have discovered that it is the people associated with VC (both working for the Brand and the collectors) that have really turned an original interest in mechanical instruments into a passion.  I should thank (or is that curse) Respo and all of you other Vacheronistas for getting me addicted and becoming worldwide friends! The watches aren't too bad either wink.  Here are some from Respo's very nice collection: One thing I really noticed after going through these pictures is just the cool texturing of each dial, even the simplest looking ones, show some amazing depth to them when looked at very closely.  I think this is one of the things that VC really shines at - making things look so simple (even basic), but there is a lot of detail behind the simplicity that needs time and attention to lo discover and appreciate.
Hum-hmmm! That is one sweeet collection!

Enjoyed reading and looking at your photos quite a bit.  You even used the "best" opener for one of these sorts of posts -- "x guys go into a y..."  :-) Best, Gary
