Vacheron Constantin @ Watches and Wonders 2014

It as great to meet Alex and Dan again this Weds at W&W in HK.

Also very nice to meet new friends and fellow VC collectors including Henry, William, Thomas, Beran and Aaron. Always nice to make new friends from different parts of the world! :)

Here are some pics I took during our morning presentation at the VC booth, hosted by Alex and Dan.

You can see some of the beautiful new slate grey dial watches from the Patrimony series, the new Traditionnelle World Time Collection Excellence Platine (Henry your RG version is also very nice!), some of the open worked watches launched in SIHH 2014 (with enamel at the outer part of the dial - the blue enamel version is my fav!), the new Nature enamel art pieces (the crane has that nice blue enamel and the mountain goats as some wood in the dial making the dial look "alive").

We were also lucky to see the piece unique Maitre Cabinotier Astronomica!! It was already sold and we could only see it for a few mins! This watch has 15 complications including a min repeater, tourbillon, equation of time, QP, sunrise and sunset times, PR, etc! No trying as it was all wrapped for the lucky owner. Sorry my camera was giving me troubles then so the pics are not great :(

Another super watch we saw was the Traditionnelle Calibre 2253 L’empreinte du dragon! Featuring several complications as well including a Tourbillon, QP, equation of time. etc. A master engraver from VC skilfully creates this masterpiece of a case, with an extremely meticulous dragon scale motif.

We were also very lucky that morning that Mr Juan-Carlos Torres stepped into our room to meet us for awhile and he was wearing the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Contemporaine Ultra-Thin Calibre 1731. Alex was tempted not to return it to him! :)

Some beautiful pieces for the ladies were also featured in W&W 2014. Amongst our group of collector friends, 2 of them have spouses who buy the VCs!

VC is wise to offer something for the ladies definitely! I also feel RG is perfect especially for Asian ladies with our skin tone and love for a bit of bling. Well done VC on these pieces. They are not the super watches but they are important to make our other halves happy!

Finally, kpk PMed me about this. There was also the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Day-Date and Power Reserve in RG, aka the China edition. I understand it will be sold exclusively in China first. I think it will be very popular as some of us Chinese do prefer the warmth of RG than Platinum for more warmth.

Some pics on the delicious VC chocs and the presentation room we were in, as well as some of the exhibits at the booth. I was especially fascinated by the enamel dials done by VC. Love the colors and depth of VC's enamel dials.

We also had an Hour Club dinner that evening and I hope to do another sharing on that. It was a fun night with some other friends including David and Alberto! :)

Robin, thanks for your excellent report and photos. I think

VC retains its title as the brand with the most beautiful dress and classical watches.  I absolutely love the Patrimony slate grey manual wind and slate grey retrogade.  I think this is an excellent combination.  Even though I own the RG Traditionelle, I feel the Patrimony manual wind is the more beautiful watch.

I do not like the Patriomny slate grey automatic as the white date disc is too in your face. Mistakes like this are forte of PP, not VC.

I really like the Traditionelle moon phase PR for ladies. It is a worthy successor to the previous Malte with same caliber.  Perhpas VC should think of using this movement for a men's piece.  Or even better, why not use the caliber 4400 as a base to engineer a moon-phase and pr indicator - same thing but based on the 4400 and not the 1400. This perhaps gives a larger case size / dial and better placement of the subdials and moon-phase for a men's piece, plus greater PR.

I am not a fan of the engraving on the case of the Caliber 2253.  Its a bit too in your face.  Maybe it will find its client, and I can even understand this in a Asian / cultural context (PP did something similar to its SkyMoon Tourbillon), but definitely not for me.

I love the Astronomica.  Nice to see VC step up its resume of grand complications pieces.

I love the Patrimony Minute Repeater 1731. I saw this at VC MBS a few weeks ago and I was mesmerised.  This is truly a beautiful piece.

I love the SIHH 2014 pieces - the railroad pieces'.  I love the version with blue enamel dial.  Another example of what VC does best.

I always wondered when VC will launch the day date PR in a classical case, and was happy to see this find a home in the Traditionelle case.  But I feel the original Jubilee still had more 'flair' than the this Traditionelle.  Maybe it has to be seen in the flesh to be appreciated.  But I feel something is 'missing'.  But I think I prefer the Patrimony Retrogade in slate grey more.  More sublime in my opinion.

One cannot help wondering if this is VC excellent mid-year effort for WoW, then what will they launch for SIHH 2015 !!!

Alex, any hints???

I think SIHH 2015 will be a blast for VC!

Thanks Robin for your report from the situation room at the W&W.I'm impressed of the Maitre Cabinotier Astronomica as well and hope I will have the opportunity to experience it in real life too in the future.

Not sure on the Astronomica....
10/09/2014 - 04:05

whether we can see it again in real life as it was already sold when we saw it at W&W!

It may be going to the lucky owner very soon.

We were very lucky to see it for a few mins only :)

But yes, I am sure the other novelties will come your way very soon :)

is that it is only once a year when we meet face-to-face. sad  I could have talked with you all night.

Thanks for all the great pictures.  I wish I took some of the Astronomica, but the first time I saw it (and when I had my camera)...I thought pictures weren't allowed.
