Vasheron & Constantin ref. 6701 Question.

Hello All,

I am the lucky new owner of a vintage thin Vacheron & Constantin dress watch.

The watch is an extremely thin dress watch in 18 ct yellow gold with the beautiful cal. 1003 movement (appears to be in excellent condition un-tampered with) with Geneva seal and decorated with the Geneva stripes. Serial number on the movement is: 567893. The case back has all the correct details one would expect with a quality watch like this. Numbers are: 392126 and 6701. I assume the 6701 is the reference/model number. I have not been able to find a reference on the internet of this model number. Does anyone have a ball park idea as to the age of this watch? Secondly any details on this model?

Thanks,
Mike,
Austin.
Hi Mike, welcom to THL!

I've never seen a Ref. 6701.  The closest I've seen is a picture of a Ref. 6702 from a 1967 VC catalog, here is a picture of this square cased watch. The serial numbers you provide suggest the watch was made in the mid-1960s. Please post pictures of the watch, I'm sure many of us would like to see it. Cal 1003 is a classic movement and one of the best made VC, enjoy the watch! Best Regards, Dan

Hello Dan, Thanks for the welcome! I am going to get some photos in the next day or so and I will post here. Mike.
Ref 6701 was first launched in 1967 in rose gold, yellow gold and

Hello All, Here are photos of the watch. The dial is missing the ampersand between the "Vacheron & Constantin" which makes me wonder if it is a re-dial, however the other details look right plus there are signs of age on the dial. I bought the watch with the attached strap - this will be replaced with a higher quality piece. Thanks, Mike.
Very cool it looks similar to ref 6694, the Chronometre Royale

that looks like Batman's watch!(this picture taken from Alex's Chronometre Royale Article) I do believe the dial of your watch is a re-dial. But is is a very cool case design!  Thanks for the picture, I've never seen one before. BR, Dan

Hi Dan, Yes it does have similar lugs to the Chronometre Royal! I looked at a lot of photos trying to pin down a similar model and all I could find was the Chronometre Royal on Tick Talk's web site. I wonder how many ref. 6701s were produced? I suspect not many. Do have any ideas as to what strap I should be looking for? Mike.
Just my personal opinion, but I would choose a strap with curved ends

Most of VC's own straps have curved ends and I think they work best with the curved lugs of your watch. I tend to like black or burgundy straps with yellow gold watches, but that is obviously just a personal aesthetic. Best Regards, Dan
Thanks Dan.
