VC 222

Hi everyone I'm new to the forums. This is my very first message. I neither know about how to use the forums nor about VC watches. If I posted in wrong section I am sorry about that.

Though I don't know about VC I have one, it was given to my dad as a present long time ago. While I was surfing on the forums I found out that it's similar to the 222 model, but square version of it. As I said I don't know about the VC,  I would be grateful if someone make a comment about its rarity, value(I am not planning to sell it since it's a very important gift for our family, I want to learn just because of curiosity),etc. Thank you very much in advance. Here are the pix of my watch.

the case lead me to believe that it is the square version of the 222 however I need to check for more info.

Does it have 222 inscribed on the back?

BTW here's an excellent review of the 222 done by Leonardo : 222

Thank you Alex for your answer. Yes exactly it's the emblem of Saudi Arabia royal family and its written Fahad Bin Abdul Aziz (The Former SA king), the watch was his gift. At the back side of the watch there is a sticker of the VC it looks really nice so I don't want to remove it, isn't it possbile to guess without looking at the back.

Btw, while I was waiting for the answer I found the article that you recommended it's quite detailed and useful, but there are lots of unfamiliar terminology about watches, is it possbile for you to make simple comments about it's rarity and value.Thanks.

Another 222 "Saudi"

About 222 "Saudi", 2 mounth ago, speaking with a friend, he told me that he knew a collector that owned a 222 "Saudi", but not square. Tomorrow I'll phone for more informations!

So, this's the second versione of 222: caliber is the ordinary 1121.

Some other pics below!

Can you send me those data and make some other photos?

Thanks, Leonardo

Hello Dear Leonardo,

I sent a PM  to you.

Now I go to read it!

PS Movement is VC 1124 (JLC 899), with central seconds, not 1120, sorry!

rarity and value

The square 222 models were made between 1980-1985 in less than 300 pieces in yellow gold, steel and two tone.

Now that we know it is a rare model, this brings us to the question regarding value ((which does not systematicaly increase with a low production number), I would say I have no idea since none have been offered for sale on the secondary market in recent times and  my only benchmark is the round 222 of which the gold/seel models have been selling between $3000-$6000 depending on condition and I would think that yours would be worth in the same league.

For a 222 with this movement, considering rarity and if in good condition, I think the real value can be 3000-4000 euro. Less than middle-size 222 round model, that has the same movement.

Thank you dear Alex and Leo for your comments and help.

Alex---that number 300---would that be for the total number of pieces over the 5 years of production or per year?

I had a conversation regarding the round version production numbers the other day so I'm curious.

Wellcome to HL

Firts time I see this model

That is a beautiful 222!

I had never seen before the square version... I think I prefer it to the round one

Thanks for sharing the pictures and the story of the watch, and welcome to the Lounge!
