VC Chronometre Royal: 4907 or 6111 ?

I would like to add a VC Chronometre Royal to my collection and am considering either a 4907 or 6111. Any thoughts on one model versus the other ? In photos the 6111 appears to have more wrist presence than the 4907.

PS: Merry Christmas to all Loungers !

Personally I prefer the 6111. Based on that I find the lugs a more integrated part of the design. But at the same time they are bringing something new to the watch design in a subtle way.

I think the 4907 looks a litle like a calatrava that landed on top of a Reverso. But may be it will grow on you over time - never underestimate the growing factor indecision

Thanks for the response. I'm struggling with the image of a Reveso annd Calatrava combined (while actaully wearing a Reverso as I am writing this response).

I tried a 4907 on my wrist last week. It looks better (to my eyes  anyway) on the wrist than in photos. However, I am inclined towards the 6111 as the llugs appear to be more integrated into the design of the case.

May be not the most accurate picture, from a person who very múch like jlc's smiley To me it just look a little like a round watch which landed on top on a rectangular watch, the impact just leaving the side panels so to speak and the lugs. I basically agree with you that the 6111 shows a more integrated case design.

Good hunting

Tough choice to make!

Welcome Pattomi to THL.  You do ask the tough questions, don't you? wink

I decided to take the easy way out:  I hope to get both.

I have a Ref. 6110 (same case as the Ref. 6111, but with a sub-seconds cal. 1007/BS)  and absolutely love it.  I'm also a CR lover and think the bold lugs of the Ref. 4907 are amazing as well.  I'm searching for a RG version.

Best Regards, Dan

Tsih, tsieh, Dan for  the welcome.

I saw the photos of your 6110 on the Lounge and must say the watch looks great. I prefer the look of the central  second hand, if for no other reason than that I have a few watches with a separate dial for seconds and would like something with a different look.

I totally understand

And thats why if I can find a PG CR with the lugs of the Ref. 4907...I would need it to have the center-seconds hand as well, just to differentiate it from the small-seconds on the Ref. 6110.  I've seen versions with the cylindrical lugs in PG, but still with cal. 1007/BS...and have passed on them.

Best Regards, Dan

Both of course :)

I have a similar model to the 6111 and had the chance to try both

Imho the 4907 (or 4838 ) , have a bit more presence, because of the "wide" flat bezel", the cylindrical shape of the case and the fat lugs. It is absolutely superb,

The 6111 has a more refined shape, looking thinner from profile, With an inclined bezel, the elegant and sharp "maltese cross" lugs, it loks less massive than the 4907. The biggest problem is to find a good one. I will advise you to share the watch here before buying it.

Thanks for the advice. Attached is a picture of the watch and the movement. I was advised that the watch was owned for over 20 years by a "very meticulous collector". The watch comes with original papers and a Ceritifacte of Authenticity from VC in Geneva.)

Caliber has a stop second, that's ok . I have the Impression that there is a screw missing (on the left in the hole), but this shouldn't be a big deal. Back to the presence of the case, I should add that on These Maltese cross lugs you have at least two type of case one large in 36mm with screw down caseback which, you are right, has a big presence and is better for medium/big wrist imho. There is also a snap on in 34mm. I have the smaller one which fits perfectly my small wrist. In all cases it is a magnificent watch, the CR is a magnificent watch hope you will get it and enjoy it. Have mine since 3 years and I am still in love with it like it was the first day :) Francois.

This CR has the screw on back case and is 35+ MM. It is on the way. I will post pictures once it reaches its new home.

Thanks to the Loungers for their comments. The CR obviously has a strong following among VC fans and collectors.
