For VC Detectives: Sometimes they just make it too easy

Here's a watch advertised as a Ref 6115, from1960. I can see three boo-boos just looking at the dial. As has become an informal practice on THL, no need to mention what the errors are lest copy-cats can fix them. My guess is a Fraken-watch.

Anyone else?

Aside from the condition issues Bill, what bothers you?

When did V&C change to VC?

Hi Dean,

The 1960 date given and the  VC on the face. I cannot make out from the pictures but should the ampersand be on the face if produced in 1960?

Thanks for the catalog pix!

LOL, that was an early lesson a wise collector impressed upon me; first examine the object, then the provenance.  In this case, the vendor has misidentified a legit watch!  He was probably in a rush to list, but this watch is from the 80s.

Is it...

a 39206? From the 1980s? (Difficult time reading the catalog.) I was wondering about the Roman numerals....Then there's the crooked Maltese cross.

Not that exact model

The catalog models on strap look to have an inset crown, so more like the one on bracelet.  You and Joseph have noted the condition issues visible in your picture, which tells us the watch has been roughly handled.  Certainly red flags even if not a franken.

It lopoks like the end of the hour hand has been broken off, Dean!

And remember, don't drink and...

..try and position the Maltese cross....

Thanks Joseph, Dean, and Bill

This is always a fun exercise.  The insights offered by Joseph and Dean in these types of exercises are always very instructive.  I will one day dive into the vintage realm and, when I do, I will be better prepared because of the awesome and knowledgeable folks here! yes
