VC Overseas 1

Hello everyone,

I'm now the owner of a 1st generation VC Overseas Chronographe.  The 40 mm version suits better to my wrist than the more recent 42 mm. Luckily my retailer had one in stock.  However, I like very much the bracelet of the Overseas 2, in addition to the fact that you can fit a leather strap on it (similar to the croco one of the titanium version).

So my question is : could it be possible to fit a leather strap on the first gen model as well?  Do you know anybody who managed to do that? I'd really love to have this watch on a nice leather strap with clasp.

Your help/comments would be very much appreciated.

By the way, I'm brand new to the forum which I find extremely informative.
Welcome to the Lounge and congrats on your watch. The only strap

version available on the 1st generation Overseas was on the time only ref 42052 in yellow gold and only straps for this model size are available. Unfortunately the only possibility of having a strap on the chrono would be having one custon made. All I have is a photoshop done many years ago by JLS of what the chrono would look like on a strap and that I had saved on  my hard drive.
Thanks Alex!

It gives a nice idea of what it would look like! It's gorgeous! Personnaly, I like very much the contrast between the steel and a black strap. Would you know where I could have it custom made?

Paris and the only one I can think of who would be capable of making a strap would be ABP (Ateliers du Bracelet Parisien) Please do post scans once you have a strap made

Great! I've just had a look on their website. They seem to do a great job. It's tempting. I'll see if I can do it from a distance, as I'm not planning any trip to Paris for the time being. Thanks for you help and info. If I can have it done, sure that I'll post a picture of it! Promised.

I've always had this thing for exotic leather straps. OK high-heels too Having bought straps from anyone and everyone: ABP is a cut above. They will make a custom strap look like it was made for your watch. Your biggest issue may be that you'll need a special Vacheron end-clip. If you're able to make a "direct connection" try a Banda "Bony Croc". IMHO I've found these to be the best for the bucks all the way around. The Vacheron Concierge Service in New York is best for OME straps. Good luck and enjoy another part of this wonderful hobby. Best, Miki

Thks Miki. Yes indeed, the end-clip can be a problem. And if they are able to fit the strap without it, I fear that the tiny connection might not be robust enough... Well we'll see. I keep you posted.
I think it might be hard to get it to work.

I did quite a bit of experimenting with my old-model Overseas. I couldn't get along with the bracelet, so I tried cutting a few straps to adapt them to the watch's case. The problem is that the attachment point is very narrow and would not hold a leather strap securely in place. I think that your first stop may have to be at a metal fabricator's to get some sort of framework that could be put inside the strap to make a rigid connection between the strap and the watch. It's possible that it could be done solely with thickened or stiffened leather, but cold steel is likely to be more reliable.

Yes, that's my feeling too mkvc. I'll see what the people at ABP can do about it. Or maybe I should ask someone at Vacheron directly. Any idea on how to reach them? Thks

Bonjour Alex, For whatever reason, your picture does not appear. Could you please reload it? I'm looking forward. By the way, I called ABP but they are currently overworked after their one-month off.  I believe it's worth it to go there on the spot once they are up and running again. Thks

Perfect! Especially if you're able to go to ABP in person and bring your watch at the same time. However the scan shows that the strap is "screwed" on the case. If so, why not buy a VC strap?

So it looks like you are able to visualise Alex's picture. I really wonder why I cannot. Neither on any of my computers at home or at the office.  Very strange indeed. Anyway, Alex promised me to have a look at it when he finds the time. But surely, I would rather go for a VC Strap if there is one existing for the 1st gen Overseas Chrono.

Is smaller than the chronograph. Bespoke is the only way to go

Fine. I'll stick with ABP. But I'm really curious to visualise the picture of the chronometer on strap. Why on earth am I unable to see the picture whereas everyone else can?! Deeply frustrating. thks

I can't either. Neither at work nor at home.
Make that 3 of us that can't see the picture

This isn't the first time, though I don't know why.  I have this problem with other forums and sites - I just tend to blame the Great Firewall of China when it happens. Alex, did you use the "insert/edit image" function or copy/paste the image? BR, Dan
