VC Special Editions for retailers

So I was at my AD the other day and saw this special piece:
VC Special Editions for retailers

VC Special Editions for retailers

Its part of a special edition of 10 pieces (apparently 3 are left) for Harrods in London. Its an interesting concept with the engraved back depicting Harrods' facade, a Pt950 case, (if I am not mistaken) a silver dial, and a beautiful dark blue strap. It costs a bit more than the regular production 81180 in Pt950. The limited series of 10 is appealing, but not so sure about whether I would go for a (small) premium to have a storefront on the caseback. What do other Loungers think about it?

On another note, it got me thinking about the discussion a while ago regarding a special Hour Lounge watch, and looking at the different versions provided to some retailers (the Overseas for the Italian retailer Pisa, this for Harrods, etc), it seems like it is not that big a step to have a HL watch ;)

Best,
Walid
I don't find that just an engraving makes the watch unique enough for

for consideration. If I were to pull the trigger on a platinum Patrimony Contemporaine the model with the slate grey dial would be my choice
The slate grey in Pt950 was my first thought

when I saw this. I think in the Contemporine line, the slate grey Pt950 is certainly my favourite from the current production - although tough to find come to think of it. Best, Walid
Just a case back engraving would not do it for me

If I was to pick, and pay the premium for, a Special Edition...it would have to have more than just a case back engraving. I would go more for a special dial, like the black ones for the Boutique Editions. Or the one for the NY Boutique 1921, with the different arabic numerals that are more like the original 1921 driver's watch. BR, Dan
Excellence Platine, the only choice for me...

the dial is to die for...
That one still drives me crazy, Radek

But I could be ok with the slate gray dial Pt. version as well.  As you know, I am very easy to please.  LOL. Best, Robert
The engraving....

...does not add or detract from the watch's appeal to me.  But there are a couple of other versions I would prefer over this one:  the E.P. or the current slate gray dial -- both Pt. versions if we are comparing apples to apples.  Emgravings on the back are not the thinkg that is going to make a limited version of a watch special to me.  I woud like to see a change in the dial, metal of the case, hands to make me think about going for a LE. Best, Robert

I agree with the sentiment here, right now. But... Ask us again in 20 or 30 years time. Apparently people will go crazy for a routine watch, just because it has a Retailers name on the dial, let alone an engraving of the whole store on the back.... Gary
