Even though Vacheron Constantin had made a few world time pocket watches in the 30s and 40s, the first world time wristwatch was only launched in 1957. Maybe I should not use the word "launched" as Vacheron Constantin was only planning on making 3 pieces but the existence of only one has been established!!
Ref 6213 was made in yelow gold in a 40mm diameter case (huge for the time where men's watches were in the 33mm-35mm range!!). The dial is divided into three sections: time, a 24 hour display with night and day as well as on the outer rim the name of 42 cities. The cities can be set via a pusher at 9 and the 24 hour indication via a pusher in the crown at 3.
Ref 6213 uses caliber 499.
This watch came up for auction in 1991 and is now in a private collection. I can't imagine what it would sell for if it came back on the market! And I would love to see VC come out with a worldtime either exactly like the ref 6213 in the Historique model range or in the Overseas.
