a VC you have probably never seen: vintage worldtime ref 6213

Even though Vacheron Constantin had made a few world time pocket watches in the 30s and 40s, the first world time wristwatch was only launched in 1957. Maybe I should not use the word "launched" as Vacheron Constantin was only planning on making 3 pieces but the existence of only one has been established!!

Ref 6213 was made in yelow gold in a 40mm diameter case (huge for the time where men's watches were in the 33mm-35mm range!!). The dial is divided into three sections: time, a 24 hour display with night and day as well as on the outer rim the name of 42 cities. The cities can be set via a pusher at 9 and the 24 hour indication via a pusher in the crown at 3.

Ref 6213 uses caliber 499.

This watch came up for auction in 1991 and is now in a private collection. I can't imagine what it would sell for if it came back on the market! And I would love to see VC come out with a worldtime either exactly like the ref 6213 in the Historique model range or in the Overseas.

Thank you for the wonderful post Alex.  I too would like to see VC come out with a worldtime like the 6213.  It seems such a waste there is only one of these beautiful watches on the planet.

Incredible watch!

The hours dial seems to be a little small, but I love this watch (if we change the strap :P ), the design is very contemporary for a 50's watch!! Thanks for this picture Alex!

Would you have true photos of this watch to show us?

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately I don't have real photos of this watch! It has been off

the market for over 16 years and I don't even think many at VC have even seen it!!

Thanks Alex. (nt)

consider to have a very appealing design

The Phidias made in the 80s

Evasion: made in the mid 90s for the Japanese market in white gold and pink gold, 100 pieces each

I would have preferred not seeing those!

Dear Alex:

Is it true that Vacheron-Constantin made the "Evasion World Time 18KWhite-Gold" Model for 100 pieces for the Japany Market, only? This Beautiful Time piece manufactured in Mid-90's, can it still be consider as new piece for sale today? Also, since it is only for the Japany markets to be sold in Japan, therefore, would this time piece can be sale,, again as new in others continents such as Europe, Southand North America? If do purchase outside of Japan, would the warentee be honored by OEM? In this case Vascheron-Constantin office.......................................

Thank you,

Sokunroath

However to answer your query yes the Evasion was made for the Japanese market and the fact that you have found one new could just mean that it is new old stock. For VC to honor the warantee your watch must be purchased from an authorised dealer and duly stamped with the AD's mark on the warantee (no matter where the watch was supposed to sell in the 1st place). Just make sure that you are buying from an authorised dealer. Hope this helps Alex

Again, per your requested for me to post my private meassage regarding to the Evasion model. Thank...

I found this time-piece outside Japan. And it is on for sale as new with box and paper. The dealer claimed that Vacheron-Constantin will honor the two years warrantee? He shown to me the blank paper works, but no box.

Should this be from the secondary market, then what would this time piece sale at manufacture retail price?

Thank you................Sokunroath

I'm not quite sure that at this stage VC would service the watch if need be free of charge but what you should do is ask the dealer to give you an inhouse guarantee meaning that if ever the watch needs to be sent to VC for servicing and that VC charges you something he will pick up the costs. I don't know the retail price as this is a watch which was launched only in Japan about 8-10 years ago. On the secondary market it has been selling in the $11,000-$14,000 range. All the best Alex

Hi Sokunroath I kindda stumbled on this post of yours in an old thread
10/08/2007 - 19:41

as stated in our email exchanges VC will only honor warranty if your dealer is an authorised dealer for VC. It seems however that this watch is  second hand with no box or papers (papers are open but does that mean that there is no dealer stamp but the correct watch referrence or absolutely no inscription on the papers?)

keep us posted.

By the way if you have further questions please start a new thread because I'm nor sure to come back to these old threads :-)

Great watch; thanks (nt)
