Very strange movement !!!

Hi Loungers,

I saw a Vacheron & Constantin triple date and moon phase with this movement and i am very surprised. It seems fake or at least made of different parts.

Very strange movement !!!

Bottom case also don't smell good !!!.

Very strange movement !!!

What do you think ?

Best regards.

Patrice.

It all seems like early 1950's, are you saying you saw the movement on a newer watch or on a vintage watch? If you provide the movement number, the experts here should provide you with its provenance. To me, it looks legit.
This is not a legitimate VC movement

The cal 454 is a time only movement with indirect, center, seconds hand.  You do not see the indirect center seconds wheel on top of the wheel bridge.  Also there is no swans neck and the regulator looks wrong.  I think somebody took the engraved plate from a cal 454 and added it to an unknown movement. VC's triple-dates used cal 485 and cal 495 (without and with moonphase).  These calibres were based on the 453/454 family. Best Regards, Dan

I rearly visit the flea bay, as I can't be bothered to waste my time and energy on fuzzy deals in too many cases. However, I was positively thrown Out of my shoes yesterday when I saw an offer for a platinum VC tourbillon with a screwed-on bridge a la Breguet for, you won't believe this, 120k. They even showed the open back with a mechanism that looks pretty high quality frm the photos provided, but it doesn't look like anything VC. I didn't have time to write about this yesterday, but unfortunately its no longer on offer today. God, 120k!

Marko, I saw the same tourbillon at the flea yesterday, could it have been an older model? I consider myself a complete rookie on this kind of expetise. However, the seller seems to have a watch store of nothing but high end watches, Breguet, Lang, Breitlings, Patek, and so on. Lots and lots of them. I'm naive by nature but the man's offerings of so many high end watches (his other offerings)........well, I can't see somebody pulling this off, maybe Alex could definitely identify it as legit or not so.

You're probably right. It's just that looking at the watch it did not have the usual V&C elegancy, i.e., it was not consistent with their heritage.  It was probably made in the 'bad' period of the 80's.  I've never seen before a V&C with a screwed-on bridge holding the turbillon, and it just didn't seem right.  Like I mentioned, it looked high quality, but the movement shown also looked different from all I've seen. I'll just ignore the fleabay and sleep soundly......

my apologies, I've searched around and it is legit. With some 1000 photos I thought I had them (almost) all in my photo library, but this one escaped me. In any case, aesthetically it does not reach out to me.
