Watch Lost...Or Stolen?

You may remember earlier when my vintage Chonometre Royal 6694 suddenly stopped running.  I sent it off to the Richemont service center by registered mail two weeks ago.  It never arrived!!!!

Now the post office is investigating but I'm afraid someone may have stolen it from the mail and may try to sell the watch.

HELP!  Is there a registry of lost/stolen Vacheron watches that I can contact?  I'd like dealers to know in case it shows up for repairs somewhere else.  I know the case number is 398540 - what else should I provide to authorities?

Oh no, this really sucks!! If you have the movement n° as well I

suggest you contact the Richemont service center it was to be sent to and they will send the info to all other Richelont / VC centers. You should also contact the major auction houses with ref and case/movement numbers. You may also want to contact the different on line vintage dealers.

I'm not aware of an on line registry for stolen watches.

I really hope the watch has been "misplaced"

This really sucks!!!!

Dean, I really hope that your watch has just been misplaced, and will soon be found...

Oh man, I hate it when I hear things like this NT

For what its worth you may want to report the theft to Iterpol, link

OK, guess what?  The watch was at the service center all along!  I got through today and they had it...somehow the post office just failed to mark is as delivered.  Now my baby is on it's way to Switzerland.

Boy am I relieved, but now I won't see it again for many months.  Thanks for your your concerns and sorry for the false alarm.

Beer's on you for giving us such a fright!!! Glad for the

false alarm.

I'd love to treat you to a beer...

A Big Rock McNally's Irish Ale, to be specific.  Best beer on the planet (I'm ready for the rebuttals).

Just for your information, and having used Canada Post many times to send and receive things, although never a watch; their tracking sucks big time. Sometimes ticking off "send email when delivered" or some-such option can help.

But I have had the same problem as you before, and since I like to sleep at night and know where my package is at any given time, I don't use CP for anything I consider irreplaceable.

Just a personal preference but learned in "the School of Hard Knocks"

Best Wishes,

I'll let them know it's been found when Inspector Cleauseau finally calls.  They were supposed to respond within 24hrs.  The only consolation is that I can apply for a refund on my guaranteed service delivery.  Ha, a dozen forms and a month's wait I'm sure....

Ha Ha!!

That too happened to me... twice.

Once I got my $10 back.

The other time about a year ago... well, I'm still waiting!

Best wishes,

Glad your watch is in a safe place ! (nt)

Biggest Regret...

would have been losing the watch from history.  Imagine some moron stealing the package and throwing it away because he/she doesn't recognize the brand name!  I really feel like a custodian, not an owner, of this precious timepiece.

It turns out my home insurance would have covered most of it anyway.
