Well, I was trying to make a post about a gathering last week...

in Singapore, but I twice lost it.  Well, I was trying to make a post about a gathering last week...  Well, I was trying to make a post about a gathering last week...

Once, I had a circuit breaker pop at home and that reset my computer and the second time the Hour Lounge reset itself and I lost the lengthy post a second time.  I am too frustrated right now to go through the aggravation again, so I thought I would try making a smaller, shorter post with my new watch.

Every since I first heard about Quai de l'Ile, I have been totally captivated.  In its own right, it is a beautifully crafted timepiece marrying the traditions of the finest watchmaking by VC with a more contemporary design.  I also believe that this new product line is vital to the manufacture as it broadens its appeal to a wider audience.  Nobody can look at these watches and say, "that is my grandfather's watch".  At least not for another 50 years... Well, I was trying to make a post about a gathering last week...

So, I decided immediately that I needed to add at least one of the pieces to my collection.  Ultimately, I think that one will not be enough and this is just the first...

Now, please allow me to share with you a few pics of my new Quai de l'Ileself-winding with date in titanium.  This model is extremely comfortable to wear.  I believe this is an ideal daily wear watch due to its comfort and easy readability.

These photos were taken by my good friend and talented photographer, Tay Kok Choon.

Finally, let me just say, I love this watch!!!! Well, I was trying to make a post about a gathering last week...  Well, I was trying to make a post about a gathering last week...

A true beauty that will glide through the test of time. I still am
10/01/2008 - 10:55
amazed at the architecture of this piece and once you really see the watch and realize the volume of the design, it is amazing. It fills the eyes with wonder and pulls the viewer into the fascinating complexity of execution--you just can't take your eyes off of it! Thanks for sharing and great photographs. Best regards, Tim
Thanks Tim. I just keep looking and admiring the watch. :-) (nt)

.....on the arrival of probably THE horological item of 2008, either at VC or any other brand!  I find it really interesting that you say that its so comfortable that it could be a daily wearer. How does it feel in terms of durability and heft, with the titanium?  By nature, I think that I tend towards less modern design watch wise, but the QDI is definitely one of the rare exceptions to my usual horological preferences, and I very much hope that I get to see one IRL one day. Thank you so much for sharing this with us and to Kok Choon for the fabulous photos! Oh, and are you going to make any more attempts at trying to do the other thread......? LOL.

Thanks A.P. Titanium is a very good material for day to day...
10/02/2008 - 02:31
wear.  It has a little more heft that some other materials but that is not a bad thing.  I have found that titanium watches with rubber straps are one of the best combinations.  The only potential drawback on titanium that I have found is that it sometimes has sharp edges which can irritate the skin.  However, I have not found this to be the case with the VC Quai de l'Ile.  Of course, I am not surprised given VC's long history of the highest quality watchmaking. And yes, I am back working on the other post after yesterday's debacles... Cheers, Duncan
BTW, more of KC's terrific photos coming soon...

but of subjects other than watches. Stay tuned! Duncan
intriguing! lookimg forward :-) (nt)

Just keep your fingers crossed for no further...
10/02/2008 - 12:44
"technical difficulties". Do you have any idea why the site would reset and take me back to the front homepage when I was simply scrolling on the "Post New Topic" screen?  As it was the second time I lost my entire post, I almost put my fist through the monitor. Thanks, Duncan
normally if you keep the "new topic" page open for a long time ie over
10/02/2008 - 13:34
an hour and a half the page jumps !
Okay, thanks Alex. Is there a reason for this parameter?
10/02/2008 - 14:16
As you can probably imagine, when creating a long post, there are times when we get distracted and may have to do other things (such as work ) before we can finish the post.  Anyway, I finally opted for the MS Word then cut and paste solution... Cheers, Duncan
I aked once but didn't get an understandable answer :-( (nt)
10/02/2008 - 14:20
Those damn techies... :-)
10/02/2008 - 14:29
Unfortunately, there are some who think that they can ensure their job security by keeping everyone in the dark about everything.  Typically, i trust someone a lot more when they are willing to share knowledge and information. Thanks, Duncan
Congratulations my friend you are probably the very 1st QDI owner in
10/01/2008 - 14:37
the world  . Lucky you. May it time only happy moments I agree with you one QDI will not be enough considering the number of variations possible, you can actually have a whole collection made of only QDIs!
Thanks Alex. I already have 3 potential pieces on my QDI list...
10/02/2008 - 02:36
and that is just based on the first year models... If this is the first Quai de l'Ile then I can only offer my deepest thanks to the fine folks at VC.  They made this acquisition possible and I am very grateful for their kind assistance. Cheers, Duncan
which other combinations are you interested in, my current choice is
10/02/2008 - 10:49
the RG with titanium flanks like in this photo but with dark dial
Alex, you are a man with exquisite taste...
10/02/2008 - 12:33
I am thinking of the exact same combination.   Shall we see if there is a buy one, get one free promotion?  Cheers, Duncan
LOL Duncan, I asked and the answer was the same as when I asked for a
10/02/2008 - 12:40

raise.....NO WAY!!!

Oh well, never hurts to try...
10/02/2008 - 12:47
Well, I hope that you get a raise as long as it is not used as a justification for a price increase. Cheers, Duncan
Congratulation Duncan! (nt)

Thanks Lin! (nt)
10/02/2008 - 02:37
Just one word: WOW! congratulatins on such a fantastic watch NT
10/01/2008 - 16:41
Many thanks, it is really a wonder to behold and to wear. :-) (nt)
10/02/2008 - 02:39
amazing scans of an amazing watch, why this model and this combination
10/01/2008 - 16:55
I chose this model for its clarity and appropriateness for daily wear.
10/02/2008 - 02:45
It is very legible and the titanium is extremely comfortable.  I am not so much of a RG fan and palladium didn't seem as appropriate for a daily wearer.  Also, I will probably order a customized version od the Day-Date model with a combination of titanium and either RG or palladium.  That will be a more "special occasion" watch. Cheers, Duncan
Congratulations, Duncan!!!
10/01/2008 - 17:23
I believe this model is not yet available with the mix and match options but even the basic "off the shelf" titanium model you have is a knock out.   Although I could appreciate the concept, I was not too crazy with the design when we first played with it at SIHH.  However, the more I see it, the more I am attracted.  I love it on the rubber strap.  If I had the means I would trade in my old OS to help finance one. Congrats again and thank you for sharing (of course you are still obliged to give us a full report since you are probably the only person who has one at this point). May it time only happy moments! Kazumi
Thanks Kazumi!
10/02/2008 - 02:50
Yes, I think that the customization will be available with the Day-Date model. While I was attracted to it from the beginning, my appreciation continues to grow with each passing day.  Your time will come. Cheers, Duncan
Beautiful pictures of my favorite QdI model!
10/01/2008 - 18:42

Congratulations, Duncan! You are one lucky guy, you know that?

I am green with envy!  I would love to have one exactly like yours but my local AD has not even heard of QdI yet  ... I guess you are in a VC privileged market and all the novelties get there a lot quicker than anywhere else...  On the other hand, Hour Lounge QdI version might be ready before the regular production models hit the stores over here finally  and I won't have to make that difficult choice

May the watch time only happiest moments!

Believe me Radek, I definitely know how lucky...
10/02/2008 - 02:57
I am.  As i said before, I can only express my sincere appreciation to VC for first, crafting such a wonderful timepiece and secondly, for helping me acquire it.  Quite simply, they are the BEST!!! While it may be awhile before your AD in Poland gets the Quai de l'Ile, especially since there are very limited points-of-sale during the first year, I can suggest visiting the boutique in Geneva.  They should be able to help you before your local AD. I think that the Hour Lounge version is still a ways off and I am not known for my patience. Thanks, Duncan
NIIICCCEEE hats off for such a fantastic choice, wear it in best of

10/01/2008 - 20:03
Congratulations, Duncan. A beautiful addition! Wear it in excellent health. Best Wishes, Joseph
Thanks Joseph. I must say that I was much more excited by...
10/02/2008 - 03:03
this watch than others over the last couple of years.  The thrill, which I felt when I got it, was similar to when I first started collecting before I got a bit more blasé about watches. Cheers, Duncan
Very, very nice. That'd be a great everyday watch. Question:
10/02/2008 - 02:08
Is the white "fan" moving under the dates of the month constantly rotating?  I note it looks halfway between 25 & 26 in your photo, and it was just before 12 o'clock when your photos were taken.  So did that mean it was almost noon in Singapore?  Or was that just the angle of photography & the "fan" actually jumps from one date to the next at midnight? Again, that is one heck of a handsome watch.  Congratulations!  Nicholas
Thanks Nicholas for your kind words.
10/02/2008 - 03:06
The photos were taken just before midnight and you are seeing the date change.  It is not continually moving but does jump at midnight. Cheers, Duncan
Congratulations, Duncan!
10/02/2008 - 06:32
This is too modern to become a grandfather's watch! Indeed... Have yet to see this in person but I look forward to it.  Wear it in good health, Sir!
Thanks Rei! I will wear it the next time...
10/02/2008 - 12:35
I come to Jakarta for a VC event. Cheers, Duncan

Congratulations Duncan and best wishes on being the 1st in the world to own this incredible watch. We are quite delighted to know that one of our Loungers has acquired it so to speak " its in the family now". Wear it well and enjoy it. Best wishes, Matt
Many thanks Matt. While it may be in the family...
10/02/2008 - 12:40
I am not sure how I will feel if every family member wants to borrow it. Well, I will wear it to my next Hour Lounge event. For now, I am enjoying it enormously... Cheers, Duncan
Congratulations, you get all my... jealousy ^^
