what broke my new year resolution for 2009.....

firstly, thank u for not scrambling with me for this acquistion in the auction and the blessings from doc, tic-talk, alex and others here.

amid the financial crisis, i made a resolution for only 1 watch purchase for the year. and of course, it took me no time to use up the quota for a watch with formed movement. however, i am still constantly lurking on the internet for more information on watches, particularly an independent to soothe the the ache still residing in my heart for not getting the kari's chronometer when i had the chance.

one watch name which i got acquainted  and fascinated with the constant search is marc brogsitter, especially ref 2166, the one with the constant force escapement and big balance wheel, built with an art decor robust case, its aesthetics influenced by VC and patek. but unfortunately, on the net, there is no further information and in depth review which i can get at the moment. also i don't think it will be affordable with my current small budget.

as i was fascinated with that watch, i came across the one (V&Cwhat broke my new year resolution for 2009.....) that broke my resolution, which its look i believed inspired the look of the marc brogsitter. so if in the future i am decided on the marc brogsitter, i will have its inspiration as a pair. what broke my new year resolution for 2009.....

without furthur ado, the ref 4739 topolino, made in 1951.
cal 435/3C formed rectangular movement housed in a rectangular ear-shaped lapidated lugs case with curved  crystal.

i am always amazed by watches made that time by VC for its fine finishing on movement and case. i can empathise the difficulty of making such watches with its handicapped technology and tools at that time and how painstaking it must have been for the artisans to finish the watch.

the topolino is named after its lugs, translated from italian meaning mouse, which can be clearly seen for its mickey mouse ear-resembling lugs.

what broke my new year resolution for 2009.....

this watch comes with VC signatory stick hands, the whole nine miles of " V&C" , applied pyramidal square and triangular indices which i can use to teach my one year-old daughter shapes. the passepartout on the matt silverish cream dial that framed the guiilloche centre really melts my heart the moment i saw it at the auction preview, i know i couldn't refuse it in my collection, especially being a ardent fan of VC.

if there 1 thing that i'd like to improve on the watch , it would be its size. however, it couldn't fault VC as it was made 1951, when the smaller, the prettier as a dress watch.

what broke my new year resolution for 2009.....

nevertheless, it is a handsome watch, and it deserves to be in the hands of a VC fan who broke his new year resolution ! i will be smiling in my sleep tonight. it is also my first VC with an "&".

Congratulations, it looks marvelous!

I'm trying to be good this year, but these V&C's are so very seductive!  BR, Dan

the size looks fine. Its true that Brogsitter's watch is directly inspired by VC's Topolino but the size is HUGE. He also states that as a big fan of PP and VC from the 50s he pays somewhat a tribute to these brands with his case inspirations Brogsitter's movements are made by a brilliant watchmaker Karsten Fräsdorf who is launching his own brand FDMN using similar movements but at a much lower price point : FDMN Enjoy your new watch, I'm sure it puts an immense grin on your face each time you look at it
It looks great!
