What came first?

47112 or 49005?  Both are perpetual chronogrpahs I believe.

The 49005 was introduced in 1992 and I think was in the catalogue until 2001/2002 with some 800 pieces produced over this ten year time frame. The 47112 was introduced in 2000 and remained in production until 2006 or 2007. I'm sure Alex or some of the more seasoned people here can give you more exact info, in fact I remember reading a series of articles by Alex on VC calendar watches that I am certain mentioned one if not both references.  I personally find both to be significant in their own way. The 49005 was, I believe, VC's first if not one of the first perpetual chronographs introduced by VC and housed cal. 1136QP, while the 47112 was one of the first models to feature the stunning engraved moon-phase and featured the cal. 1141QP, which is currently used in the ref. 47292.  Best, Walid

Thanks so much.  You see this is what I thought.  However I thought I also 47112 was VC's first manually wond perpetual calendar chronograph.  I was confused because now I realised that this was indeed manual but the 49005 was an automatic. The Calibre 1141QP was the old Lemania movement right?

You are absolutely right! The 1136QP is an automatic movement based on the Piguet cal. 1185 (if I am not mistaken), and its currently used in the overseas chronograph perpetual. As for the 1141QP, it is, as you correctly noted, based on the well-tested and highly respected Lemania cal. 2310/2320. Best, Walid

As a side note, I'd highly recommend this comparison between the Lemania-based stunners, the 5970 and 47212 (also has the 1141QP movement) that was posted here some time ago by JohnLy:http://www.thehourlounge.com/thread/view/comparison-between-vacheron-47212-amp-patek-5970g_17460_17460.html and a more recent post by hewitgar:http://www.thehourlounge.com/thread/view/47212-vs-5970p_54241_54241.html Best, Walid

After all, if it weren't for the fantastic info from our great moderator and other loungers it would be tough to find info elsewhere. On that note, are you planning on picking-up a Malte Perpetual Chrono? If so, I would be seriously envious! That moon phase is simply to die for! The size is just perfect at 39mm - I am partial to anything under 40mm - and the hinged back allows for some personal creativity. Makes me wonder why I never got around to getting one when they were introduced (and now its tough to located any/have their owners give them up)! Best, Walid
