What is there to know about Vacheron Constantin Histories 1912 and 1921?

While I'm still waiting for my OS 42040 (scheduled to be here yesterday...grrrr) , I've been looking around. I've seen several watches that I'd like to get, read the discussions and articles on this site, and watching the smoke come curling out of my pockets...

The next Vacheron Constantin I'd like to have is either a  Historiques 1912 or 1921. The new and pre-owned are not that far apart, and so I decided to save for a new one—taking on the kinds of projects required. (For my next consultancy, I'll just charge: 1 VC Historiques 1912 or 1921.) This may take a while.

As noted I've read the articles about the watches on this site, and I was curious as to what individual experiences with these models has been. Is there anything I should find out before purchase? Also since it's going to take a while to save up, I have plentry of time to look at any suggested articles. (I downloaded the PDF file that WatchTime has on VC, and while they mention line Historiques line, they did not consider it a "Major..." one—including only Patrimony, Malte and OS.) I've looked at other articles and YouTube videos about the Historiques 1912 and 1921, and have yet to find one less than gushing.

Anyhow, this is where I need to ask, and like everyone else, any pictures of your Historiques 1912 or 1921 are delightlyfully welcomed.

The 1921 is a collectors' favorite around here

You will hear equal gushing, I assure you. The 1912, I have not heard much about. Many 1921 owners are among the loungers.

I have a Historiques 1921 and owned a 1912

and it really comes down to your tastes as both are so different.

The 1912 is on the smaller size for today's tastes where as some my find the 1921 a bit on the large size.

Keep in mind that the 1921 also has an inhouse caliber 4400 where as the 1912 uses a Piguet base.

For me the 1921 has in a few short years become a true VC icon and if I had the choice between the 2 I would go for the 1921 but the most important is which one do you desire the most?

Here is an article I had written on the 1912

Alex after reading your story about the 1912, I see that I am not alone in admiring that version of the marque. Thanks. (Now to read about the 1921...)

I own both

Thy are completely different watches.  All elements.  That being said they are both very much VC icons for the fact they have typical VC elements

it is a matter of tastes, feel on the wrist, wearing objectives, etc

i find the 1912 very much a black suit and tux style watch. Elegant, subtle, thin, unique lugs.  The 1921 very much more versatile   I am a white metal guy, so the RG of my 1921 reduces my uses.  But I really love it's elements.  The case, lugs, but for me the dial is crazy good.  Love them both. Good luck in choosing, or better, get both.  Picking on the 1912 has really plummeted and great deals are out there.

While I admire the 1912 greatly, I'm more of a RG kind of guy and will gladly take the 1921 off your hands...wink
