Which is the biggest watch city?

One of the discussion topics when hanging out with the VC London crew was whether Paris or London was the bigger watch market.

I would have though logically that London would be given the size of the city/ amount of wealth compared to Paris.

However, given the fact that forum boards seem to be overly represented by French watch lovers, the amount of events taking place in Paris and maybe the fact that there is a stronger affinity between Geneva and Paris given common language (?) (by the way, these are all my impressions, I might be miles off the reality), Paris was a market that watch Companies focused on more.

I was told that no, London is a bigger market.

So I was just wondering - from a demand standpoint, which is the largest city for the watch industry - HK, London, New York, any other??

By the way, it was getting very warm last night in the office (to save energy they kill the air-con past a  certain hour), so I took my tie off, and then decided to take a few pictures of my favourite tie with my favourite watch - as you can see I love blue! (not sure why I'm sharing these with you, but here you go anywayblush...)

by far is Paris due in majority to the high number of tourists. Accourding to the statistics of the Horological Federation the greatest importers of Swiss watches in terms of value (million CHF)  in 2012 are Hong Kong 4'370,7 (market share 20,4%) USA: 2'186,9 (market share 10.2%) China 1'647,6 (market share: 7,7%) France 1'317,2 (market share 6.2%)  http://www.fhs.ch/statistics/horlogerie_2012.pdf
Thanks Alex for the stats...

Collector's and Customers in China

Hi Francois,  many collectors in China (and perhaps other regions within Asia) do not really live online or have online presences. So I don't think one can associate online activity with customer/market demand. BR, Dan
Indeed Dan, you are correct

Maybe I wasn't clear, but my original question was which one out of Paris vs London was the biggest European market. Impressive to see HK's market share!
