Which one would you select and why

I have a picture of 2 Vacheron Historique, both are ref 47101. I do not think theres a right or wrong answer because both are beautiful, but would like to hear others opinions. BTW if it appears the black dial is larger, its because it is. The black dial is 37mm while the silver dial is 36mm in diameter. Also the black dial has a guilocche in the center and the silver dial does not.

Which one would you select and why

I am a fan for black dialled watches

so my choice is clear, plus you mentioned it has guilloche as well...so clearly we have a winner!

Silver dial is too common as Patek mainly produces silver dialled chronographs as well.

interesting! I didn't know that the Chrono Historique with black dial

was 1 mm wider, its not much but definately obvious in this side by side photo.

I like the fact that the blach dial model is a limited edition and I like its size. However, I'm a sucker for the monochrome look of the silver dial one and in general I don't like black dials on white metals, so my vote goes to the silver dial.

both are beautiful but I vote for the black dial because it

has a bigger case and looks more modern. The silver dial model is just too understated.

The Chrono Historique being a "dress" chrono I prefer the

silver dial as the black dial is more sporty. However I do like the bigger case size of the black dialed model.

For me I'll choose the silver dial. eventhough it is

smaller since silver dial tend to make the watch bigger. a black or darker colored dial watch will look smaller.

the silver dialed watch is clearer to see.

despite the black dial rarer, i prefer the silver dial as it is more..

legible and i prefer the plain dial for vintage re-edition. but i have not seen the black in real so it may be unfair to say so.

You kill me! I love that watch with the ...

black dial. Now I have two pictures of it on my computer. Thanks!

I hope if I can find one of these in the future I can afford it.

Assuming that both are PT, I find it quite interesting that one case is bigger. It makes no business case, does it?

Thanks again for sharing!

Forgot to say way ...

just because I am crazy about watches in white metal with a black dial.

Still searching for MY VC in this combination. A few days ago I tried the Patrimony Contemporaine "Limited Edition" but 40mm looked to big on my wrist and the 47245/00P-8789 I also had the pleasure to try on my wrist is "just not my cup of tea".

... who is still looking to find his VC. Maybe just to get on of these great looking buckles

Why theses questions?? ....

...take the two!!!!!!!!!!! They are both marvelous!! LoooooooL

Seriously, I would take the chrono with the silver dial!

I am really surprised by this scan, normaly, my favorite combo is white metal/black dial

But with your scan, I don't know... I am more attracted by the silver dial than the black one, even if the diameter is only 36mm... Probably because there are too many writings in white on the black dial... I would have largely preferred that the least useful information were in grey.

My two cents.

Good luck for this new purchase John!

The silver dial, but would like it better if it were 39mm! (nt)

Thanks for your great comments

I was surprised that there were so many for the silver dial, but the more I looked at it I do see why...its very subtle and pleasing to the eye. I also think the scan of the black dial is not very good. The dial looks to harsh while in real life its not that way. The guilocche breaks up the all black look and takes your eye away from the contracting white print.

I am going to go with the black dial. I like the 37mm diameter, also that is a LE of 25 pieces and love the dial.

Thanks again it was very interesting to get your comments.

Great choice John

While the silver dial is a good classic look, the black dial is really unusal.  I have rarely even seen the yg black dial version of that watch.  Yours is the first picture I've seen of the plat. with black dial and having one of only 25 watches makes that a really special watch.  Enjoy it and I hope you will post a wrist shot for us.

Best regards,

Dino

I love it with the black dial.  I hope it gives you many years of enjoyment.

Thanks for sharing a wrist shot.

Best regards,

Dino

They are both nice,

but the silver dial makes this chrono more dressy.

Moreover, the black dial is a bit difficult to read information...

Re: They are both nice,

I like the silver dial for all the reasons mentioned

A bit late in responding...

...and you already chose the black one. Considering the other pieces in your collection, I think you made the right choice.

I would have done the same, both in your situation and mine (I do not have a dressier black dial watch).

Having said that, on a stand-alone basis, I think I do prefer more the silver dial one...

Anyway, congrats on your new purchase!
