A wonderful heirloom and a great story

A collector recently contacted me with questions about a watch which has been in his family for almost 80 years. His browser didn't enable him to post his story and he asked me to post it for him.

Hereunder is the merge of our different email exchanges and all words are his:

The provenance, although there are no surviving papers: It was a 'confirmation' present, given to my uncle and godfather, when he was just a boy of 14 years of age, so I estimate the watch to be around 1926, as he was born in 1912, and the shape/style of the case appears consistent with that period. Note: according to VC archives the watch dates from 1929.
He later became an Olympian (Berlin 1936) Showjumping, and equestrian Eventing champion. He then attained the rank of Colonel in the Swiss Military, and was responsible for buying the horses for the military. I also have an early 1940s gold Heuer chronograph that was his, incidentally.

I believe it was last serviced in 2008 (my aunt organised that, so I don't know where it was serviced - probably in Bern), and it is in fine working order and keeps good time.

My Aunt gave the watch to me this November.  I occasionally wear it, and it runs just fine. I gave it a light polish and changed the strap to the light brown crocodile.

The watch is in excellent condition, too. I am delighted to own such a classic and beautiful watch, and it's extra-special because it's been in the same family since it was made.

I never come close to such a thrilling story that so perfectly lives up to Vacheron&Constantin's old device, this from 1950 catalogue, as I showed recently, but it never could have been more appropriate ! Thank you sir for a fantastic and so sweet story, I have no more words! Confratulations from Doc
