The World's Most Complicated Watch - hint 1

Its time to unveil...even slightly...some of the elements that make up what will certainly be one of the greatest horological feats ever created!!

One of the complications, and one I am particularly fond of, is the striking function and this piece features something never seen before...the night time function!

This piece features the following:

CARILLON WESTMINSTER CHIMING

GRANDE & PETITE SONNERIE SELECTION

AND NEW “NIGHT TIME SILENCE” FEATURE

You see 2 hands for two different functions:

On the top sector: Sil (Silence) , Night and Chi (chime)

On the bottom sector:  PS (Petite Sonnerie) and GS (Grande Sonnerie)

The World's Most Complicated Watch - hint 1

The Carillon Westminster Chiming & Minute Repeating

A Carillion Westminster chimes to the same tune as London’s Big Ben with 5 hammers striking on 5 gongs. This watch follows the traditional Westminster chiming sequence (quarter-hours, minutes and hours) and has 3 options to choose from:

Minute repeater- The time is indicated by the striking of the gongs

Grande sonnerie – whereby both the hours and the quarter-hours are struck at every passing quarter-hour, for example, if the time is 4.45, the full three-bar Westminster tune is struck (one bar of the tune for each elapsed quarter-hour), then 4 single strikes for the elapsed hours.

Petite sonnerie – whereby the hours are struck at the hour only and thereafter a quarter-strike only on the quarter-hours so that for example at the time 4.45 when in Petite sonnerie mode, the watch strikes the full three-bars of the Westminster tune but no further strikes are sounded for the hours until the next full hour is reached.

A silence option can also be activated when no striking is required.

Night-Time Silence Feature

The chiming mechanism incorporates a unique and very user-friendly new feature developed especially for this watch - that of the automatically activated “Night-Time Silence”. This innovative system, unique to Vacheron Constantin, automatically engages so that (in this instance) between the hours of 10pm and 8am it does not chime in order not to disturb its owner. The night time silence function is the first to be automatically activated without the need to manually set the chime or silence option. The precise hours of night silence are bespoke set in-house at Vacheron Constantin before delivery

Wow...gets even better. So we know the following from the earlier link
06/04/2015 - 11:43

and this hint:

The Tivoli has:

-) THE 3-D Tourbillon and all the technical accompaniments as described by JB. - one complication.

-) Minute Repeater with PS and GS - three complications.

-) Night Silence Feature - one complication.

The above we know.

I am also guessing it will have a QP (so Day, Date, Month, Leap Year) - four complications.

And obviously is will have Hours and Minutes. :-) - two complications.

And maybe running seconds - one complication.

What I am guessing is whether this will have sky-chart or split seconds chrono or both?

And I am sure it will have Equation of Time.

Whoever has commissioned this is probably a modern day re-incarnation of Packard or Ward.

Alex, am I guessing correct?

well the time telling function can't be
06/04/2015 - 13:00

considered as complications and a QP is in fact 5 complications day+date+month+leap year +QP :-)

I thought the time telling functions were always counted as a complication.
06/05/2015 - 18:07

I think they were on the TDL.

Also, please elaborate on how QP is five complications?

10pm to 8am...well the owner obviously isn't a clubber!  So is Tivoli the official title or a nickname?  Regardless, I think it will be worth a trip to W&W this year.

Tivoli is an unofficial nickname, internally its calles the Grand Oeuvre or magnum opus. It actually

will be presented before W&W. On Sept 17 for the official 260th anniversary

Might the owner allow VC to exhibit it at W&W? Please, please, please (nt)
06/04/2015 - 15:08
Let's ask him directly. JB will you let us exhibit? :-)

cheeky

Well, of course!
06/05/2015 - 14:55

Aucune probleme!

But you will have to post the egg-timer function that I ordered. It has a setting for 3, 5 and 10 minutes hard-boiled eggs.

Oh by the way... I have to solicit donations from the THL members because I'm now out in the street. sad

In order to pay for the watch, I had to sell my house, all my watches, my dogs and my car! crying (LOL)

I am going to be the first to say...
06/05/2015 - 15:23

It may be worth it.  (Except for the dogs).

I get visitation rights. smiley

JB, why did you ask for a Silence function? I thought every night you were
06/05/2015 - 18:10

out clubbing? Or is it because your mistress does not hear the chimes and wreak havoc middle of the night? smiley

Oh-Oh!!

I've been found out, curses! blushangry

I've no sympathy, however, I'm concerned about Banjo and Vinny...
06/06/2015 - 12:10

Joseph, I can't imagine how Gale is taking this? surprise. How you can be concerned about 3, 5 & 10 minute boiled eggs baffles me! enlightened...

I've just seen a tent on eBay - two previous owners - if it'll help let me know. I'II chuck-in a sleeping bag, oh!, that's for Banjo and Vinney...not you! crying...

I can only hope a quick recovery is in store for you heart...

One thing is for sure, I'm never sure what you're getting upto next!!

Have a good weekend

Tony

Do I detect a nefarious alliance?

Dare I say conspiracy?
