Alex, you have now to put one on each wrist to be perfect and to enjoy both every second ;-)) It seems so difficult to choose between these 2 beauties. You are a lucky vintage collector. Best Liger
Between the 2....

It will difficult to decide , if there is only 1 to be , my choice will be 4072, and I have always thought the 4178 is the ultimate since it has the tear drop. The classic case and that dial somehow lingers longer , a longer finish in whiskey term ! Great catch, Alex ! Hope VC got my hint !
An other argument for vintage

EXCELLENT. My vote goes for 4072, But I like teardrop lugs more and more by time. They are reminescent of the VC cross. Their size is also perfect, 34-35mm, maybe? Wear in good health! Regards, Csaba
surprisingly the 4178 is iconic but I agree with you and Aaron the

4072 attracts me more!
Nice pictures Alex. Well done. You are indeed lucky

Thank you, Alex!

And today's lesson is vintage chronographs.  Here we have two magnificant pure examples of the chronograph.  All brands should take note, this is how it is done when it is done well.  I would be hard pressed to decide between the two.  There are so many differences in all the details, but both designs work beautifully.  The 4072 looks terrific on the wrist, Alex. It has a more modern look to it overall than the 4178, or maybe it is more of an art deco feel.   Oops! I was just told to wipe bit of drool from my mouth.  blush Congratulations, again. These are both beautiful! Best, Robert

WOW. Wonderful Watch!!!!!! I'm envy you! smiley
Appearantly I'm going against the grain - again...

Starting with the more unusual lugs (not sure I would call them "tear-drop") to the two-tone less cluttered dial with raised markers make the 4178 my favorite. Needless to say they are both classic beauties. Congratulation, Miki

Lovely photography of two iconic pieces! I must concur with a.ler, and de Owar in their preference for your 4072. Perhaps it is the dial's thin, elongated Roman numerals, which seem to contribute to the Art Deco feel which respo mentioned. They are both exceedingly handsome, however, and I congratulate you again!
I prefer your new 4072

Great size and shape, the dial is really nice. Somehow the 4072 is more modern. Best of both worlds. Wear it in good health. Best, Stan

They're both lovely, Alex. I can't make up my mind between them (so I'll take both! cheeky) I like the dial on the 4072 since it looks like my 4178. But the lugs on both ar great...apples and oranges. You have a really beautiful twosome, there. Make sure they get equal wrist time. Joseph
Just gorgeous, Alex!

Like most here I feel 4072 has more appeal to me. The dial works better for me. Simple indices also are to my liking. Thus my vote definitely goes to your new baby ;-)

A reminder (as if i needed it) that vintage VC chronos are much prefered to PP..... Alex I love this dial variation.  Actually I have not seen this dial before and I love it!  My vote is with the 4178 but this 4072 is really hard to beat too.  What is that reference which also has a date at 6? Happy Watch and Enjoy! justindependent

The 4072 and 4178 remind me of a song "You light up my life"... Debby Boone expresses my thoughts and sentiments perfectly whilst I 'remain on the fence' listening. Tony

I like the fact that the 4072 has wider lugs and smaller sub-dials, which gives it great balance, and the pulsation scale is great.  On the other hand, I like the fancy lugs and applied numbers and markers on the 4178.   Hard to choose and fortunately for you, you don't have to!
They are both very appealing and made for specific functions.

A beautiful pair of timepieces, Alex. Your lucky to have them both. They are both very appealing to me and made for specific functions. The 4072 I would use as a tool watch in my Practise (the useful pulsometer scale) and the 4178 for other and formal occasions with its more sophisticated design with golden hour markers and enhanced lugs. Are they sharing the same caliber? Do you have any pictures of the movements to share?   PS: I could also do with the Patrimony Traditionnelle Chronograph below winkPatrimony Traditionnelle chronograph (ref47192/000G-9504
