Write up on the Hour Lounge SIHH dinner and some heavy duty watches

For the 4th year a small number of Loungers gathered at the Vacheron Constantin Maison in Geneva to share a privileged evening of not only fine food and wine but most importantly to share our common passion of horology face to face. The dinner took place the evening before the opening of SIHH.

Asta Ponzo PR for the Swiss market who had perfectly organised this fine evening:

Between the main course and desert we did a presentation with Christian Selmoni on Vacheron Constantin's place in 21st century watchmaking followed by an animated open discussion on classic vs modern design watches and the place of VC within the current market.

After desert some more watches were pulled out of bags and holders

OK guys time to go home! We wrapped up at around 1AM, needing to get a good nights sleep before start of the SIHH and the official presentatio of the VC novelties.

It was a fantastic evening, getting to see old friends and meeting new ones. A big thank you to all who made this happen and for your great positive energy.

Can't wait for the 2011 edition Write up on the Hour Lounge SIHH dinner and some heavy duty watches

Thanks again to Alex and all the VC's Team, it was a fabulous

diner. It is so nice to get in touch with the HL Loungers in real.
Sorry to have missed you and your long lost brother Fred, Lin ;-))) nt

I am still cleaning up the drool aftering seeing all of those incredible watches. I am glad to see it was a great night for everyone, and I hope I will be able to attend some day. Thanks again! Cheers, Mike
It was such a great event!

A BIG THANK YOU to Alex and the whole VC team (especially Christian and Julien) for making this another memorable evening!!! I really enjoyed myself, and it was good to see again some old friends (Lin and JB) and meet new ones (I particularly enjoyed my time with Gary). As Alex always says, meeting fellow watch-geeks is always the best part of the hobby. We had some very good and interesting discussions that evening (the VC vs. PP debate always being a good subject). The food and the wine were A-Class. And being able to see in the metal JB's Cabinotiers piece, the Dufour Duality and the Kari Voutilainen Masterpiece n°8 was the cherry on top... VC had to kick me out of their building at 1am, again I was the last one to leave (I was busy drinking all of VC's vintage scotch...). What Alex didn't include in his report is the tour of the Maufacture that we got the following day, which was really impressive (again, BIG thank you to Alex and the VC team!!).  I learned a lot about the whole manufacturing process, and I was impressed by the attention to details, the skills level of the watchmakers and the dedication to their craft... Most impressive to me was spending time with the emailleur and the gems-setter, and really understanding all the work required to produce one piece (I'll never see the bling-bling pieces in the same way as before). What is equally impressive and worring is the fact that only a handful of people in the world can do what these people do - it is good to know that VC has one of the only 5 people in the world who can properly do enamelled dials - but then you think, was is VC's Plan B if that person gets hit by a bus? The only disappointment of the evening was that Radek, Dean, Doc and Bill couldn't make it... Hopefully next year!  I'll definitely be there in 2011 Cheers,  Francois
I really wanted to be there!!

It's high time I met a lot of you in person. I expect to be there next year. Bill
It's high time indeed - book your ticket for next year now! :-) (nt)

I am not going to miss the net event for sure...
01/27/2010 - 23:01
Unfortunately, the very day of my departure there was an urgent family business I had to take care of. First thigs come first sometimes...  Looks like you all had a great time as usual. Good to see some familiar faces and put new faces to the nicknames... Hope to see you there next year, buddy! Cheers!
I know, Alex had given me the download...
01/28/2010 - 19:30

sad you couldn't be there, but as you said you need to have your priorities straight... See you in 11 months!

You're back!
01/27/2010 - 23:42
Mr Veillotron, I thought maybe you had won the lottery and gone and left us - it has been a while! I can't wait until we can do a double wrist shot of Number 46 and Number 2...(how cool will that be!?)
It's indeed been a while since my last post...
01/28/2010 - 19:35
...but I never left, just lurking... Sir, if I had won the lottery, I would be on the HL every minute of every hour (apart from the time I would take off to go and buy more watches)... So no, I didn't win the lottery - yet. I'm naming work and family life as the main reasons why my post count has gone down recently... Let me know when no2 arrives, we can celebrate somewhere in London and share with the Lounge the cool wrist shot! Cheers,  Francois
Vintage Scotch?
01/28/2010 - 01:46
Francois, if only I'd known...there would have been two of us left to kick out of the building .  Seriously though, but for urgent family business I would have been there.  Next year I'll bring cigars to compliment the scotch!
Dean, now you're talkin'...
01/28/2010 - 19:42
Oh yes... Cigars has been the only thing missing from the HL dinners... Next year is going to be great! Cheers,  Francois
I would like to add a BIG THANKS to Mister Lefrançois who

My eyes were not there but I didn't miss much!

Alex, your personal journey at SIHH took us onboard from start to finish. Both the camera and pen were present at every juncture. Clearly you set out to keep us informed and advised and that you did in abundance. Thanks, as always Tony

Thanks for the write-up, Alex! It was a pleasure to be able to put some faces and voices to the screen names. A very enjoyable dinner, good discussion, albeit too short. I look forward to seeing everyone again next time! Hopefully I will have a slightly less hectic SIHH :)
