My Hour Lounge year....
03/16/2008 - 10:57

I signed up a couple of months after the Lounge was launched looking fos some specific information and found it to be like a "real" lounge!  Alex the master of ceremonies is a fantastic host and the Loungers are so welcoming and friendly that I stayed much longer than what I had thought!

I don't post or spend much time on other forums and am an irregular poster here but read each day.

I'm surprised as how fast the forum has grown and the amount of knowledge here. And I'm also surprised by the passion VC via HL has gathered.

My only wish is to see the Lounge go from virtual to real via dinners and gatherings.

I agree with Tourbillon,
03/16/2008 - 11:45

and I can also add that I regularly look at the forum almost every day when at home, and after business trips, I spend some time reading all posts sent during my absentee, to be aware and to share the past discussions between Loungers.

I am not an addict, but not too far...

Alex succeeded in creating a real environment for a new community, and people to share.

A Lounge, in fact.

Thanks to Alex, and to everybody making it live.

Thanks to all the "aficionados" (nt)

Observation from a real stranger...
03/16/2008 - 12:38

Just joined this space. Not sure if I’m qualified for this meaningful thread. But I’ll try anyway. I started participating here a few weeks ago. As a completed stranger, I got a warm welcome from Alex and many passionate fellow loungers. I enjoy being here a lot and intend to pay regular visits for many years to come :) Also, you might be interested to know that I’m in the process of acquiring a VC watch. Of course, people here have been such a great help. Good news-- this ‘amazing’ watch is arriving within the next few weeks. And knowing the Hour Lounge is approaching its first anniversary makes this acquisition even more special and exciting. Hopefully the watch will arrive in time for the anniversary celebration, and I promise to pose some nice scans. Cheers, Teetann

My wonderful year at the Lounge
03/16/2008 - 14:48

Hi,

I also joined the lounge very shortly after the doors were opened .   I have learned a tremendous amount from the other Loungers and besides knowledge, have unexpectedly received so much from this generous forum and its members (i.e. a VC candle as the honored winner of the HL naming contest, even though I really came in 3rd place for "Vacheronista".  Alex was the true winner for "Loungers".  As well as receiving a free VC booklet from JohnLy).

I don't post as often or consistently as I'd like to because my work travels often take me to places with limited Internet access for months at a time, but I do try to check-in to the Lounge whenever I can (I'm posting from Vietnam right now).  I love coming to see how everybody is doing and what is going on with my favorite watch brand.

I enjoyed sharing the experience of my first VC acquisition with fellow Loungers and will continue to do so when I get the chances to make more acquisitions .  I also can't wait for the HL's 1-year anniversary party!

Best Regards, Dan

My year with The HL
03/16/2008 - 19:02

I signed up on april 2007 to discover this new discussion area about one of my favorite brand.

At the beginning, I was rather reluctant to participate: my English is far (very veyr far) from being perfect, my knowledge about VC were close of the nothingness ... and I don't love at all the disposal of the forum.

According to my readings, I wanted to learn more and to quench my curiosity, and thanks to the sympatic moderator and enthusiastic participants ... I regularly read posts on Purist, Horomundi, and other, but the HL is actually the only forum on which I participate regularly (French and English merged) -since I was banned from the French forum on which I used to post LoL-!!

I love The HL, beacause we have here a family atmosphere, the number of participant is relativly small, and through the discussions on the forum or via PM, we "meet" other! ... and naturally, it's an inestimable source of information about VC!

I hope that the second year of life of the forum will be also rich as the first one, and that we will keep this atmosphere!!!!!!

I am curious Fred...
03/17/2008 - 13:09

...why did you get banned from the French forum??

Re: I am curious Fred...
03/17/2008 - 14:09

For a litttle cartoon/humorous drawing on a watch which the administrator didn't appreciate

Can we see it?

I saw the photoshop he had posted and it was really funny but since it
03/17/2008 - 16:41

makes fun of another brand I don't feel comfortable having it here on HL so please email Fred if you want to see it.

In any event it was definately nothing to get banned for!!

Some moderators live in a such a fantasy world...
03/17/2008 - 18:38

..what is the deal with the power trips?? That seems like an extreme reaction, and I think I might just know who that moderator might be...

Too bad for him and his forum - I'm sure your humour, insights, and photoshop skills are missed there...

Looking at the vacheron web site I came accross the hourlounge. Of all the watch forums I enjoy the athmoshere, the loungers and obvoiusly Alex. The dedication alex has put into informing and entertaining us has made the hourlounge the sucess it is...keep up the great work.

I also appreciate the articles and interviews. If educating the masses is a primary function of a forum then the Hourlounge has suceeded in a great scale.

Thanks to all for the enjoyment I get every morning.

thanx to google.

i found it as one link while searching for information on Les Masque

YEAR OF EXCELLENCE
03/16/2008 - 21:51

16TH DEC 2007. THE DATE ON WHICH I JOINED LOUNGE. BUT LONG BEFORE THAT I HAD STARTED READING POSTS FROM LOUNGE. I CAN RECALL, THE FIRST POST THAT I READ IS " Métiers d'Art Les Masques: The Face That Reflects The Soul's Movements". N MANY OF U I GOT MAD. THATS NOT THE FIRST TIME, I READ ABOUT MASQUES; BUT IT IS SO FAR THE BEST ARTICLE. N AFTER THAT, I BECAME REGULAR READER. AFTER FEW DAYS, " The Delicate Art of Skeletonizing" GOT PUBLISHED AND AGAIN IT SHOOK MY WORLD. AND ON THAT DAY I DECIDED TO GET REGISTER. AND I JOINED LOUNGE. AND AFTER THAT, DOORS WAS OPEN FOR ME. DOORS TO A COMPLETELY NEW WORLD - WORLD OF LOUNGER, WORLD OF KNOWLEDGE, WORLD OF PLEASURE, WORLD OF WATCH COLLECTORES. I ACCEPT THAT THIS IS NOT THE FIRST FORUM I JOINED. BUT THIS IS THE ONLY FORUM ON WHICH I AM ACTIVE. I SPEND MY MOST OF SURFING TIME ON THIS THL. I CAN COMPARE IT ONLY WITH ORCUT. ORCUT FOR WATCH LOVERS. NOW I WAIT FOR WEEKEND NOT JUST FOR FUN, BUT ALSO FOR " FRIDAY, what will be on your wrist tonight?" (THANKS TO DOC). ITS PLEASURE TO SEE WHAT OTHERS CARRY ON THEIR WRISTS FOR WEEKEND. ANY DISCUSSION ABOUT LOUNGE IS INCOMPETE WITHOUT MENTION OF OUR MODERATOR ALEX. REALLY HE IS GREAT PERSON. WITH KNOWLDGE OF NUTS AND BOLTS OF VC AND WATCHES, HE PROVIDES US GREAT SUPPORT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH ALEX. THIS YEAR IS REALLY INCOMPLETE WITHOUT YOU. AND WISHING SUCH SUPPORT FOR COMING YEARS ALSO. THL ALSO PROVIDED ME HELP WHEN I HAD DILEMMA WHICH WATCH TO BUY. OPINIONS OF LOUNGERS HELPS ME LOT. I DONT OWN A SINGLE VC. NOR ANY FROM ANY OTHER GOOD BRAND. BUT THAT HAVENT DECREASED MY INTEREST IN LOUNGE. ITS GOING HIGH AND HIGH. REACHING NEW HEIGHT EVRYDAY, EVERYTIME I READ POSTS. 255 YEARS AFTER BIRTH OF VC, THL BORN. BUT NOW ITS INTEGRAL PART OF VC. AND THAT TIME IS NOT FAR, WHEN THL WILL HAVE SUBTITLE "DEPUIS 2007". AND SOME ANOTHER "DOC" WILL WIN PRICE BY SUGGESTING AD CAMPAIGN "RUNNING PERFECT FORUM SINCE 2007". ITS JUST MISS MY MIND - CONTESTS RAN BY THL AND VC. THOUGH I HAVENT PARTICIPATED YET, I ENJOYED ALL LOT. NOW ITS BECOMING TOO BIG. I CANT PUT WHAT I HAVE EXPERIENCE FROM LAST YEAR - NOT COMPELETE YEAR BUT 5-6 MONTHS ONLY. BUT ALSO I CANT FORGET TIME I SPENT WITH LOUNGERS. HATS OFF VC HATS OFF THL HATS OFF ALEX. KUDOS TO LOUNGERS.

Amen to that! My HL experience has been pretty close to what all
03/16/2008 - 22:19

others have said, its more than just a forum but a wonderful community of passionate and knowledgable people and a community I am proud to be part of.

There is also something for everyone, those who like vintage, those who like modern, simple to complicated knowledgable to the newbie and all are treated and welcomed as friends.

There is also one thing I would like to underline: the fantastic articles which for me is what true watch journalism should be, you can definately see that there has been research and that Alex has done his homework: histotical facts, details, a certain style of writting that gives life to the article and a certain level of objectiveness.

Kepp up the good work Loungers, VC and Alex and hope to be part of this fine community for years to come.

Lets see... I don't remember how I found my way here but I remember it was around april/may.

Ever since then I've been lurking here until December when I finally got around to register and give my thanks when the goodies section had been updated with some lovely content. Alot of time have passed since that first day in april/may when I first entered through the door and discovered a place full of people with knowledge and passion for V&C.

In my opinion, the HL is the pinnacle of watchrelated forums. For one, it probably has one of the best moderators one could wish for in Mr. Ghotbi. It can't be said too many times. Thank you for the hard work you put into this! Secondly, as mentioned by other members, all the articles, interviews, contests and giveaways. Simply amazing and always fun and interesting! However, I do hope a few functions will be implemented soon. For instance that the thread with the latest post gets bumped up to the top so topics don't die out after they leave the first page. I would like to thank each and every person who helps to make the HL the best forum on the net. From all the way at the top of V&C to the small hardworking hamsters in their little wheels running inside the servers to keep the forum online for our enjoyment!

Btw, isn't the real birthday today as I see Alex's registration date was the 16th? :DHappy birthday! With many regards, Martin

good eyes Martin :-) I registered on the 16th when the forum was
03/17/2008 - 08:59

ready for tests and was still in "preview" mode.

Certainly a good year.
03/17/2008 - 00:56

I think I have been with all of you for nearly all of that year, and I have certainly enjoyed it. I read other fora regularly, but I tend to save this one for "dessert." The "tone" and welcoming atmosphere always make me glad, and I really appreciate the extraordinary efforts made by Alex, Vacheron and the other Loungers to provide interesting and accurate information. To many more years!

Hi Loungers!

I joined in mid-Dec 2007 shortly after I acquired my Overseas Dual Time and just wanted to know more about it.  I found the Lounge easily enough from the link in the VC homepage and signed up straight away!  I was particularly impressed with the politeness, fun and friendly atmosphere...a stark contrast from some other (Camera) forums I have participated in.

I am now a regular visitor, reading up on interesting threads each day.  It is great to be able to share with so many passionate VC fans who really appreciate the value of such fine watches.

Look forward to many more years of enjoying the company of well-informed and friendly fellow Loungers!

Re: Year with The Hour Lounge
03/17/2008 - 13:06

I started hanging around in the Lounge last April, and waited until June to register...

I really am happy that I found this special place. Over the last 9 months, I have enjoyed learning about VC, its history and its wonderful products; I still have a LONG way to go but I know a lot more than when I registered... Above all I do appreciate the friendships that I have build with interesting and kind people (I am looking forward to meeting at least some of you guys at SIHH!). EVery day I look forward to seeing what's new on the Lounge.

The only drawback is that, in the eyes of my wife, I have become a "Watch Nerd", and she think that I spend too much time with my "Geeky Watch Friends". She claims that one day she will register and she will "troll" the place

The Lounge, for better or for worse, is also ultimately responsible for me buying my first VC (I hope someone at VC is reading this - Keep investing in this venture, it is worth it!!!). I had been dreaming about taking the "VC plunge" for now 5 years, but after I started hangin at the Lounge every day, the arguments "For" got a whole lot stronger, and the arguments "Against" seemed to vanish in the air...  A few of the Loungers (including our dear moderator) also spend a lot of time helping me find the model I was looking for - for which I am very grateful.

And in the end, my "Grail Watch", that I had been wanting for so long, got replaced in my heart by its newer (and unfortunately more expensive) version, which I discovered through the Lounge...

VC also made a brilliant move when they recruited Alex for the job - he is the "Michael Jordan" of moderators, no one come close. I have participated in other forums where the moderator is too controlling/ quick to judge, full of his "virtual power", and that for me really takes the fun away from the whole thing. So VC, whatever you are paying Alex, you should double it, he's worth every penny!

Cheers,

Veillotron

I just followed Alex, our Fearless Leader.....
03/17/2008 - 17:57

Like others , I received an invitation from Alex with whom I had corresponded on another forum.  In fact he sent me a mouse pad of a brand-whose-name-I-shall-not-speak after I posted an ode to one of their models.  (I'm still using that mouse pad.)

In that I love watches and VC is the best, this is the place I most want to be, and with Alex, our Fearless Leader, he makes it the website that I love to check out every day that I can.  It's been a great year.  The discussions are great.  The Loungers are a genteel & informed group to hang around with.  And VC provides us a wonderful historical and modern display of ingenious mechanical art to marvel and discuss.

Happy Anniversary to Alex, The Hour Lounge & to all the Loungers!

I had chanced upon Alex about 4 years ago while he was still moderating the VC forum at another great discussion site.  It was then that I had purchased my first VC (OS chronograph) so I dove into the pool of high horology with all the enthusiasm of a newbie.  I was lucky since the lifeguard on duty was Alex.

That was a critical period since I had really no inclinations towards one brand or another and could have been easily swayed to the Patek side of the neighborhood.  However, with Alex's personality and the camaraderie of VC fans in general, I felt right at home with VC and soon developed a deeper respect and admiration of the brand.

Naturally when Alex announced the start of The Hour Lounge, I registered right away.  One year and 300+ posts later, I can't help but appreciate just how much The Lounge, the gang, and Alex have enriched my life.  I say that because having been born and raised elswhere, family and friends are far away, and you guys at The Lounge have been like family and friends to me.  The Lounge is now part of my everyday routine and I enjoy exchanging view with the regulars and new members alike.

I think our common love for VC coupled with VC's support to its afficionados and Alex's way of making things gel is what makes The Hour Lounge "tick".  I could go on but alas, lunch break is about over so its back to work for yours truly.

All the best,

Kazumi
