watches with 2 balances: ie the Dufour Duality or the Journe Resonance(View entire thread)April 3, 08 18:07 have as main objective to increase the accuracy rate of the timepiece: each balance canceling the deviations of the other.
As for tourbillons there is a huge debate between watchmakers as to the true chronometric utility of a tourbillon: made originally to cancel deviation rates when the watch is in one singe postion (pocket watches) the benefit is zeroed out in a wrist watch according to some, whereas for others a well regulated tourbillon has superior accuracy to a non tourbillon escapment...
